CHAPTER 5

1463 Words
It’s Sunday. A day I dread because I’m supposed to move into the sucker’s house. He called my stuff crap so I’m not moving with them. I lay my head on the headrest of the range rover and look outside wishing for the umpteenth time that this whole thing is just a dream. We are headed for his house and I don’t know how this will really work out. I don’t know how I will cope with all this. I have not heard a word from my parents. Just Alec, who is not aware of this arrangement. I watch nervously as his driver drives past a beautiful driveway, characterized by trees on either side. He pulls up outside some castle and steps out to open my door. I step out and draw in a sharp breath. This place is breathtaking. It creates some ambiance that won’t be peaceful because the owner is literally an ass. “This way ma’am.” He says leading me up the steps. “Welcome, ma’am.” The doorman gives me a friendly smile and gestures for us to step inside. The house is just beautiful. The theme is orange and white and everything looks f*****g expensive. I hear some footsteps and look at the stairs. Sage looks down at me and climbs down them. “I see you are here.” He says and looks at his driver. “That’s all Ben. Will call you when I need you.” He dismisses him and walks down the hallway. I decide to trail behind and step into a kitchen, which is bigger than my apartment. Well, it’s no longer mine. “And she follows people around.” He opens the fridge and takes out some scotch. “Need anything?” “Nope. Just want to see my room.” “Will show you that in a bit. We have to go through some rules first.” “Like not going to your room?” I take a seat and glower at him. He glowers back at me. “That’s right. My room is out of bounce.” “Okay.” “No seeing other men. No going anywhere without informing me.” “You can’t  do that to me.” “I can. That’s what I’m doing. I will derive pleasure in making your life a living hell here. Your hell has just begun.” “You know I have rights. I can sue you.” “You wanna try? Because  you can’t  get far with it.” He sips his scotch and hardens his gaze. “I already informed your boss you will not be working for him anymore.” “What? We didn’t  agree on that.” “Let me ask you something. When I started this, did you hear me say if it pleases you, your highness? I don’t think so. This is how I work. I have rules that need to be followed and if you break any of them, you won’t like the monster I will become!” he threatens. “I have already seen that side I guess.” “You ain’t seen my monstrous side yet. Be careful not to unleash it because you will get hurt.” “You are such an ass!” I shout standing. This guy is just impossible. “An ass? You bet I’m.” “You can’t force me to stay at home. You can’t control my life. You don’t own me. This is not me. I can’t stay here and wait for you to come home and make my life miserable as you put it!” I yell. “Funny that you haven’t  realized I can do all that.” He sounds calm but you can’t  miss the hatred in his voice and look.  I just wanna strangle him. Maybe  I should do it with a pillow when he is asleep. This is just too much. Heard stories about people who are monsters but his is on another level. I can’t do this. Staying here will drive me crazy. That’s why I need something to distract me and that something is work. “You can’t  do this to me, Sage.” I give him a pleading look. Maybe being civil with him will make him stop being an ass. “Sage? We are not friends so don’t  call me by my name.” “Whatever your name is. I need my sanity and I will get it through working.” “That’s what I want. I want to drive you insane until you can’t take it anymore. Maybe then you will consider ending your life. It will be good for everyone. Don’t you think so? ” He is just so cold-hearted. “Please let me work. I can’t be idle.” “You should have thought about that before lying to people about us.” He stands and approaches me. “What did you think Miss Jones? That maybe I will fall for you and your dream will come true.. I don’t deal with people like you. I like brunettes and not blondes. You don’t  even turn me on.” He grits his teeth, reaching where I’m. I get a reflex and step back a bit. He is capable of hurting me. “You made a mistake by dragging my name in your s**t. Next time try and think before you open your mouth.” “Okay. You have punished me enough. Just let me go. Let me be. I want to work. Please. ” “Maybe I will allow you to work but not your previous company. One of my companies or my friend’s  company.” “I can’t work in your company. I can’t stand working together with you.” “Don’t be stupid. I can’t look at your face here and at work. If you are to work for me, you work in one of my companies. Far from me, where I can’t see you.” He paces around and turns to glare at me. “Okay. Ready.” “Not so fast. I want an official application. Send me an email and attach your academic and all the necessary documents. That includes a resume. By a resume, I mean a well-written resume. I employ the best and I have to be satisfied you can meet my company’s expectations.” “What?” I widen my eyes at him. He has clearly lost it. “Yes. That’s how sage Carter works. You meet my expectations, you are in. you don’t, you will stay indoors until I’m satisfied with it.” “What the f**k is wrong with you?” “Another rule, don’t use curse words when addressing me. Don’t call me names and if I were you, I would go to my room and start working on the application. A formal application.” He insists. “What am I even applying for? I don’t know the available positions.” “I’m in need of a senior editor. My friend is too and I gathered you majored in literature so write about that.” “I will need a laptop or a desktop.” “All that is in your room. Everything you need is there. An iPad too.” “Where is my room.” “Take the stairs, turn right. It’s the second last one on your left.” “Okay.” I start to walk away. “Something else.” “What now?” I turn to look at him. “I take lunch at exactly one. Make sure that’s  taken care of.” “Noted.” I give him a glare and step out. How can someone live in such a castle and still be a monster? How do I deal with him? I take the stairs and walk down the hall, admiring all the sculptures and paintings. I’m into paintings and sculptures but this guy will make me hate them. I stop outside what is supposed to be my room and turn the knob carefully. I open the door and gasp at the breathtaking sight before me.
