David planned the rest of the day. They all piled in David’s van, took the drive across the Gulf on the Courtney Campbell Causeway for Clearwater Beach. David and Maddy sat up front while Jack sat in the back with Pad wedged in between him and Wayne.
“Wow, I love how you’re like completely surrounded by water here,” Wayne said. He pointed to people on the side of the road of the causeway as the van sped towards its destination. “So you can just pull over and swim or fish?”
“Yeah, I used to come here a lot as a kid. My mom would bring one of the old metal lawn chairs and read underneath that area over there while I played in the shallow water, near the jetty.” Pad pointed to a small sliver of beach, lined with some palm trees.
