Myths

I rushed to my room and opened my laptop. I immediately googled everything related to Crest blood tests. If it was a must that I undergo the blood test, then I should at least have a bit knowledge about it. According to the results that were displayed on my laptop, the tests were done every year to with the aim of monitoring if human blood would undergo mutation. Nice excuse, I scoffed to myself as I continued to read the contents. At the age of sixteen, it is believed that the blood of humans undergoes a mutation that…..., I paused as a humored smile formed on my lips Adolescence? Is it? Because only sixteen year olds undergo that kind of ‘mutation’ as the government terms it. And it wasn’t a mutation, it is just some kind of a big leap from being a kid to adulthood that everyone undergoes when they grow up. But why the blood tests? Couldn’t they just physically observe the teenagers, I mean boobs and beards are pretty obvious. I shook my head and continued to read on what google would say about that. Only those with genetic variation or inheritance would undergo mutations. Well, that was nothing like adolescence. What if you are found to undergo a mutation? I asked myself scrolling down for an answer. If your blood is found to be mutated, you would receive a special letter later in the day with the specifics on how your blood may be rectified, the paragraph ended there. Treated? So strange is it some king of disease or viral strain the government is trying to eliminate? Suddenly, my phone rang. I didn’t bother to check on the caller’s ID when I answered it since I was so much engrossed in my reading. “DUDE, where are you?” a voice shouted in my ear that made me look at my phone from my laptop “Sebastian buddy, I could still hear you if you talked like a normal person” I complained rubbing my right ear. I heard Sebastian laugh out loudly Myths and misconceptions about the blood test, I continued to read on my laptop the phone still on my ear “You promised that you would accompany me to my girlfriend’s house” The blood test is believed to control population by killing the weak when injected the sedative. “HA” I exclaimed loudly completely forgetting that I was on the phone with someone “You are going to go out on me now?” Sebastian asked “Err? No…. No way, you are my buddy” I said subconsciously as I went on with reading “Then pick me up in an hour, we are getting late” Some people go missing after the tests, the treatment is a scam. I widened my eyes in horror “No f*****g way” I shouted surprised by that misconception. What if it was true and not just some wild thought “Then I’ll pick you up jeez, you won’t even waste your car’s fuel” Rumors have it that if your blood is mutated, you get killed at night and your body is never found. I jumped up in fright after reading that, what if I’m mutated and I get killed “I’m having none of this” I whispered “Dude really?” I heard Sebastian grumble. I then remembered that I was speaking to someone on the phone “Uhm, you were saying?” I asked in an apologetic tone “What’s wrong with you? You just bailed out on me “He screamed over the phone making me flinch. He really loved screaming on the phone. I didn’t know if he always did that intentionally to piss people off or he simply just forgot that the receiver always had the phone close to his ears. “Did I?” I feigned surprise “I’m having none of this” he mimicked my voice. Even over the phone, I could tell that Sebastian really wished to squeeze me and punch me very hard “Take you to your girlfriend? Of course I won’t ever refuse that request. When should I pick you up?’ I asked after having remembered “In an hour” he shouted but this time I was prepared; I had placed the phone far away from my ears. He hung up after that. My thoughts trained immediately to the misconceptions I just read on my laptop. What if they were true? What if I was mutated and I get murdered in the night? I was too young to die and I also didn’t even have a girlfriend yet. I recalled that the doctors will come by in the noon and I had to take Sebastian to his girlfriend’s place. I would need to get myself ready if I was to get back here before noon. After I had shut my laptop, I went straight to the bathroom and turned on the shower then jumped straight into it. It took me a moment to realize my mistake when my pajamas started sticking on my body. Really? I mentally asked myself as I removed the wet pajamas from my body. No wonder I had started imagining that the showers had malfunctioned. Were these signs of a mutated blood? I cringed at the thought. After a quick military bath, that was a less than five-minute bath. I wore casual clothing and then left our mansion. I left at eight am exactly in my black race car towards Sebastian’s home. Okay I wasn’t that rich but that was one of the advantages of having rich foster parents.
