As we reach school, he pulls up in front of the school and asks me to sit still. Confused, I stay still in my seat when he gets out of the car and comes to my side, opening the door for me.
Frowning, I look at him without getting out.
“Now, princess, I know that I am handsome, but I don't think you can use that excuse if you are late.” He says, still holding the door for me to get out.
Blushing, I got out of the car and retorted, “I was not looking at you.”
“Whatever you say, princess.” He says as he leads me inside.
Blushing, I say, “Don't call me that. Why do you keep calling me princess? I am not a child or your girlfriend, so stop calling me that.”
He says nothing as he keeps going with me following him. I hadn’t noticed before, but everyone was looking our way. Almost all the girls are glaring at me as if they want to kill me. And boys were looking at me curiously, and a few winked my way.
Fuck! Sigh. I should have known with that face, of course he is famous enough for all the girls to come after me after seeing him with me.
As I take my schedule and come out of the office room after completing transfer procedures, I find Ashton leaning against the wall as if waiting for me.
Seeing me come out, he comes to me.
“Done?” He asks.
“Yeah,” I say.
“Give me your schedule, and I will walk you to your class and show you around later.” He says, putting his hand forward and asking me to give him my schedule.
As much as I don't like him, I would rather give in to him than ask a stranger. Given my schedule, I find myself checking him out.
Even though I am an introvert, I have had my share of boyfriends. But boy, they paled compared to him. His looks are really to kill for. What enchanted me more were his blue ocean-like eyes. I could get lost in them forever.
As if noticing my stare, he suddenly looked up from my schedule and looked straight into my eyes.
“Like what you see, princess?” He asks smiling.
Caught red handed, I fail to form any words and become nervous.
As if enjoying my flustered state, he stared at me for some time before saying, “Let's go. You have all the classes with me except for one. I will show you around at break time.”
“Thank you." I say in a small voice as I follow him quietly. Gosh, I feel nervous. I hope that I can make at least one friend. I don't wanna be alone or with him. I hate awkwardness.
Entering the class, he goes to the last row and waits without sitting down, as if waiting for me. As I reached, he gestured for me to sit by the window and sit beside me.
Well, I guess he isn't that bad. He seems like a gentleman, but still, he is such a flirt.
After 3 periods, break time starts. He took me to show him around, and then we headed to the cafeteria.
As we head to a table, I notice some boys sitting there. Ashton goes to them and sits down, asking me to sit beside him.
The boys all look at me curiously and are a little shocked. I don't know why.
“This is Evelyn. She is going to be with us from now on. They are my friends. Jake.” He says, pointing at a blond boy.
“Noah.” He says pointing to the boy with dirty blond hair sitting next to Jake.
“And this—"
“I am Chase. It's a pleasure to meet you, sweetheart.” A boy with black hair interrupts Ashton as he takes my hand and kisses it.
Uncomfortable, I take my hand back and give them a small hello. When I look at him, Ashton glares at Chase. His face hardens as he glares at Chase with cold eyes.
Confused by his action, I plan to ask him what's wrong when I hear Chase say with his hands up, "Chill man, It was just an introduction."
Ashton turns towards me and says, “Stay here, and I will get us lunch.”
“Ahh, no. It's okay. I can get it myself.” I say, getting up.
He suddenly grabs my hand and gently forces me down in my seat. He stands and asks, “I wasn’t asking, princess. Stay here, and I will get it. Is there anything you can't eat?”
“Um no.” I say flustered that he called me that in public. Damn, I told him not to call me that. But why is he treating me so nicely? Isn’t he… being too nice?
My thoughts are interrupted when I hear Noah ask, “So, are you his girlfriend?”
Shocked I immediately say, “No, no, no. I am not.”
“Really?” He asks, not believing me. I sigh knowing why he doesn't believe me. Well, Ashton is treating me too nicely to be a friend, so I don't blame them.
“Yeah. Actually, I am his stepsister.” I say.
I see their eyes going wide in shock.
“When-no, I mean what? From when did Ashton have a stepsister?” Jake asks shocked.
“Umm... from yesterday.” I say.
“Where are you from?” Chase asks with a smirk as if he had found something interesting.
“Sydney." I say.
I see Ashton coming back with two trays. He places one in front of me and one in front of him. As he sits down, he opens the water bottle cap and gives it to me. Taking it, I find his friends looking at us with raised eyebrows. I feel uncomfortable with his behavior. I am not his girlfriend, so why is he being so good to me?
After finishing our lunch, we return to class with girls glaring at me the whole way.
After the last class ended, we left school. He asks me to wait for him as he brings the car over.
While on our way back home, I asked him, “Why are you being so good to me?”
“What do you mean why? You want me to be a d**k to you?” He asks.
Speechless I say, “No, but I am your sister, not your girlfriend, for you to behave like that. People will misunderstand.”
“I don't care about people. Also, how did I behave? I am just being good to my sister. What's wrong with that? Or is it that you want to be my girlfriend?”
I was rendered speechless by him. I said, “No, it's- you know what, whatever. Just don't call me princess.”
I look out of the window too angry to continue talking with him.
As he pulls up in front of the house, I say, “Thank you for today.”
As much as I am angry, I will not forget to be grateful. I don't know what I would have done today without him. I don't like being alone in an unknown place, so I was grateful that he saved me from feeling awkward and sad.
He raises his eyebrows as he smiles and says, “You are welcome… princess."
I can't take my eyes off him. After a few seconds of realising that I was staring at him, I looked away and got out of his car.
Hearing him chuckle behind me, I blush and hurry into the house.
