Chapter 13Thursday Night, September 8th Jeremy couldn't sleep. He sat in bed with his back to the wall. The window was open a crack. The cool night air felt refreshing. While the curtains swayed from the breeze, an aroma from a nearby wood burning stove entered the room. The only light came from a sliver of moonbeam visible on the floor. He elected to not tell his uncle about the encounter with the sheriff. Still affected by the death of his brother and sister-in-law, Jeremy didn't want any more burden falling onto Jack's shoulders.
