April's POV
'So mum, dad, this is April, my mate,' Adrian introduced me to his parents as soon as we stepped into the house.
'It is so nice to meet you, my dear,' Asher's mum said giving me a motherly hug.
'You are welcome to the family my dear,' his father said smiling happily.
'Thank you so much sir and ma'am. It is my joy to meet you too,' I said returning their smile.
'No sir and ma'am here April. You should call us mum and dad,' Adrian's mum said.
'Ok mum,' I said.
'That is good. You know I have always wanted a girl but after Adrian and his brother came, I wasn't able to get pregnant again despite trying everything I could. I had to accept the fact that I would get girls when my boys found their mates,' Adrian's mother said as she put a hand on my waist to steer me towards the dining table.
I didn't know that Adrian had a brother. I can't remember April or the twins mentioning that. Being the inquisitive person I was. I decided to say something about that.
'I didn't know that Adrian had a brother,' I said looking at Adrian as I took my seat.
'What, he never mentioned his brother? Adrian?' His mother asked him raising a brow.
'Mum, we were too carried away with finding each other. Ray is the last thing on my mind right now,' Adrian said smiling as if we were truly too lost in each other to discuss any other thing.
'Where is he?' I asked out of curiosity.
'Oh. He is in a research institute in a pack not far from here. He is a scientist. He refused to follow in the steps of his father and brother to run the family business.'
'Oh, I see. I guess he wasn't here when the incident happened recently. I mean when rogues attacked the pack?' I asked more to ruffle Adrian's feathers than my interest in his brother.
'Can we not discuss that at the dinner table my darling? It has been a tiring journey. Let's eat and get some sleep,' Adrian said through gritted teeth.
I smiled at him satisfactorily as I discovered I had gotten to him with that question. We ate in silence for most of the dinner. Adrian's mum asked me questions once in a while and I answered as politely as I could.
I could see that Adrian was angry. He must have been more affected by my question about the attack on his pack than I thought but I didn't care.
When we were through with the meal. Two maids who I hadn't known were in the house came into the dining to clear the plates. I looked surprised at their sudden appearance. Adrian's mum noticed my look and asked if I was okay.
'I am fine. I just didn't realize there were other people in the house,' I said.
'Really. You should have picked up their scents immediately you came in,' Adrian's dad said.
'Actually, I don't...'
'How can she pick up other scents, when all she can smell right now is me,' Adrian said laughing and his parents joined him in teasing me about being too wrapped in my mate to pay attention to my surroundings.
'So, the both of you should get freshened up and get some sleep. We will be leaving now,' Adrian's dad said as he stood from his seat at the dining.
'I thought you both lived here in this house with Adrian?' I said.
'Live here? No way. We have our own house. Not far from here though,' Adrian's dad said.
'Don't worry dear. I will be here whenever you need me. I forgot to ask, what do you think about Luna's Alter so far?' Adrian's mum asked.
'From the little I have seen, the pack is quite beautiful,' I answered.
'Don't worry. We are going to have a lot of girls' time and I will take you around the pack. There is a lot you will love about Luna's Alter,' Adrian's mum said and I nodded in understanding.
'Thank you so much, mum. I feel so welcomed,' I said sincerely.
'So. I made sure the maid prepared your room. It was thoroughly cleaned. I supervised the cleaning myself,' Adrian's mum said.
'Adrian. Are you still disposed to housing us while our house is renovated? Adrian's dad asked as we saw them to the door.
'Why not?' Adrian said.
'Your mate wasn't here then you know. If you feel uncomfortable with the idea now, we can just get somewhere else,' his dad said.
'I don't want you staying elsewhere. It is okay to stay here. The house is big enough to accommodate us,' Adrian said.
'Okay then. Take care of yourself April,' Adrian's father said before turning the knob while Adrian's mum pulled me in for a hug before she followed her mate out.
Adrian didn't say anything to me after his parents left. He just turned and started going up the stairs. I had no option but to follow him.
He stopped at a door and opened it wide, he then went inside without closing the door. I followed him in and the first thing that caught my sight was my boxes sitting on the bed.
The dining was not in the view of the stairs so I never would have seen whoever brought them there.
'This is your room. I doubt that you will want to share a room with me. So I had this place prepared for you,' Adrian said.
'Okay but what room was your mum talking about?' I asked.
'I can see that you are a very inquisitive person. Anyway, the room my mum was referring to is the room that I specifically prepared for the time I meet my true mate. The room is bigger than every other room in the house because it is meant to accommodate my mate and I,' Adrian explained.
'I see,' I said and moved to the bed to open my boxes and start unpacking. The room was spacious enough with a closet and a vanity table. The bed felt soft as I sat on it and I was almost tempted to leave my things and just lie down for a while.
'One more thing,' Adrian said bringing me out of my reverie.
'What is that?' I asked.
'I noticed that you were about to tell my mum and dad about your wolfless state during dinner?' It was more of a question than a statement.
'Of course. Is there any reason why I should deceive them?' I asked raising a brow.
'Are you that shameless about your present condition that you will just air it at every given opportunity?' Adrian asked.
What he said hurt me to no end but I was not ready to allow him to see how much his words hurt me.
'No. I am not ashamed of my wolfless state Adrian. I do not care who knows or who doesn't. Besides your parents are not strangers,' I said defensively.
'I don't care if you are concerned about the fact that people know you are wolfless or not but I don't want people to know that my Luna is wolfless,' Adrian said gritting his teeth.
'They are bound to find out soon. My wolf should come forth as domineering to them but when they can't feel that, they will ask questions,' I said raising my voice a tad higher.
'Wait till they start asking questions April. Have you ever heard of a Luna that is wolfless? If I had allowed you to tell my parents at dinner, you would have announced it to the entire staff in this house. I don't want to lose my respect because of your carelessness,' Adrian said bitterly each of his words cutting me like a sword.
'If you were ashamed of me, why then did you ask me to come with you? Did you do this out of selfishness or do you need your mate to rule with you?' I asked folding my fist tightly on both hands.
'You are my mate. You are supposed to be by my side. My wolf will go mad if you stay away or I reject you. So call it selfish or whatever you want. You are staying at Luna's Alter, be the Luna and keep the secret of your wolfless state to yourself,' Adrian said and then left leaving the door wide open.
I stood up on trembling legs and closed the door. Adrian had only thought about himself and his wolf. Did he even imagine what he would be putting me through? I wasn't going to accept defeat by running back to Luna's Den. I was going to stay and prove that I could be a worthy Luna with or without a wolf. That was my resolve.
