Chapter 7

It was finally the day of the wedding of the century. The wedding was between Ryan Blaqk, the youngest multibillionaire and CEO of the Blaqk industry, and Angela Dalton, the heiress of the Dalton family, who was also a famous socialite. These two families joining together would be so powerful, but it was the Dalton family that was going to benefit the most, as the Blaqk family was already united in whatever they did. I wore a royal blue sequin gown that dazzled in the sun. The gown ran below my ankle, but I was still able to showcase my beautiful legs and my heels because of the slit that started just below my knees. I did quite a simple make-up look as I did not want to draw any attention to myself, and also, I was not even a proper guest at the wedding. I just came to work. I parked in the parking lot of the hotel, as I did not want to draw any attention by parking while the red carpet was taking place. Before I came down from my car, I grabbed my bag that had all the things I needed, including a mini camera. I wanted to bring a bigger one, but the Blaqk family had already provided for a videographer, so there was no need. I packed my mini-notebook so that I could use it if necessary. The seven hotels where the wedding was being held were also owned by the Blaqk family; they had already cleared the entire hotel, and only the guests of the wedding were allowed entry. Before I came in through the backdoor, I had to show them my ID and my entry card. They checked me for weapons and so on before I was allowed entry. When I came in, I saw the staff that were responsible for the wedding running up and down in an attempt to put everything in their place. I saw a middle-aged, elegant-looking lady who was standing in the middle of the commotion as she gave instructions. I knew she must have been the one who was in charge. “And you are?” She asked me while I approached her while still giving directions to the staff on where to place stuff. “My name is Eliza Greene, from the new company, and I am here to cover the wedding,” I told her humbly, as I did not want to cause problems immediately after I arrived. "Oh, so you are the journalist,” she asked nonchalantly. "Yes, I am,” I confirmed once again. "Well, Miss Greene, you are late,” she said as she walked away, and I had no choice but to walk after her while trying to match her footsteps. “I am not late; you guys said I should come by eight o'clock," I said while struggling to match her pace. “The time is two minutes after eight, Miss Greene; there is a lot you could have done with those two minutes that you lost,” she said as she continued working, and I wanted nothing more than to talk back at her. She was so annoying, but I took a deep breath because I knew that even the simplest person at this wedding may have more power than me, given that the woman was the one supervising everything. She came to stop at a door and knocked twice before she waited. “What are we doing here?” I asked her. "Shhhh,” she said, looking at me with slight disgust, and I just kept quiet while imagining a thousand ways I would have shushed her back if I had the power too. After some time, the door to the suite swung open, and I was graced with the sight of the bride, Angela Dalton. She was in a long bathrobe instead of her wedding gown. She was supposed to be ready because the wedding was about to start in an hour. Ignoring me,she looked so annoyed at Caroline's sudden interruption. “What do you want, Caroline? How many times did I tell you not to disturb me?" She shouted while I opened my eyes in shock; she was quite the character. I thought. “I am sorry, Miss Dalton; it is just that. Mrs. Blaqk said that I should take the journalist to your room once she arrived ." The arrogant woman suddenly became meek in front of Angela, and I could not help but sigh. Power was indeed everything. “Oh, hello,” Angela said, and after that, she did not even spare me a glance as she walked back inside her suit, and Caroline signaled for me to follow her in. “Miss Angela, the wedding will be starting in about an hour. Where are your bridesmaid and your makeup artist? You should have been ready by now,” Miss Caroline said while looking around the suit curiously, while Angela rolled her eyes at her question. "Everyone was annoying me, so I sent them out. I will do every f*cking thing for myself." She screamed frustratedly, and I could just work trying to look at every corner of her suit, but her face, Miss Dalton, was for sure a scary woman. “Okay then,” Caroline whispered before she went out, leaving me alone with this monster of a woman. I looked at her as she was going out with hopes that she would see the desperate pleas in my eyes, but she just ignored me and left me alone with Miss Angela. “Miss Angela…” I called out as I turned back to look at her, but I was in for a shock. Angela, who was originally in her bathrobe, now had staff attire on; she was wearing the uniform of the hotel scarf. “Quick, come and help me put my hair up in a bun,” she said with the utmost urgency. “Miss Dalton, what the hell are you doing?” I asked her in shock, praying inwardly that she was not doing what I guessed she was doing. “I have to run away from here, okay? I can't get married to Ryan,” she said hurriedly as she ignored me and started packing her essentials in a bag. “Miss Dalton, please calm down. I know you are scared. This is common with brides, but don't worry, you won't regret marrying Mr. Blaqk.I tried to persuade her. If it were a normal wedding of just any celebrity, God knows that I would have whipped out my phone and posted the news on my journalist's account at the fastest speed possible, but this was the Blaqk family wedding. I could not offend that family, and I knew that even though I did not post, I was still going to be in a lot of trouble if I saw the bride escape, but"did not stop her or let anyone else know. “How do you know that I will enjoy this marriage, hun?” She asked angrily. “Miss Dalt…” I started with difficulty, but she interrupted me. "At first I wanted this marriage, but now I have found someone much better; I have to leave. Have you ever seen Ryan? He is an absolute monster. I won't marry him,” she said as she reached the door, shocking me. She was actually only distracting me with her conversations. “Miss Dalton!” I called out in fear for my future as she slipped out. “Miss Greene, right? Please cover for me, wear my wedding gown, and marry Ryan for me. Thanks, darling” she said as she came back in with a mischievous smile before she slipped out once again. ‘What do I do? Why am I so unlucky?’ I asked myself inwardly. Why did Angela not think twice about the consequences of her action, especially for an innocent person like me? I was about to go out and run after her when the door of the suite opened, and seven people filed in. I only recognized five of them: the patriarch and matriarch of the Dalton family, Angela’s parents, and her elder brother, who managed a few of the Dalton businesses. They all looked at me with angry gazes as their eyes searched around for Angela. That was when I knew that I was doomed. “Where is my daughter, and who are you?” Angela’s mother angrily asked me as she violently clutched my gown. Gone was her soft and elegant attitude when she was in front of the press; she was just a monster. That was when I realized where Angela got her rotten attitude from. "I do not know, I swear,” I said while gently raising my hands to show my innocence. "I am Eliza Greene from the press agency, and Miss Caroline brought me here to interview young Miss Dalton, but as I was about to ask her the interview questions, she slipped away,” I explained with fear in my voice. “Go find her now." Mr. Dalton screamed, and someone who I guessed was his assistant nodded and ran out. “How could Angela do this to us?Angela’s grandmother said angrily. "Look, she left a letter,” her mother said, and everyone circled her, trying to read the letter, and I was no exception, even though I could not see a thing. “Dear mother,” her mother read out loud with trembling hands. "I absolutely cannot get married to Ryan. I know that he is handsome and the ideal man that you have always wanted for me, but I am in love with someone else. He is sweet, kind, and loving, and the reason I could not tell you about us is because I knew that you would reject our relationship, plus he is not rich. I know the Blaqk family might hate us a little after my election, but I trust Grampa can fix it, since he is very good friends with the patriarch of the Balqk family. Byee.” As she finished reading the letter, the poor, middle-aged woman broke down in tears. “How dare she? Does she know what she has cost the Dalton family? The Blaqk family cares about their reputation more than anything; they will definitely not let us off, especially Ryan,” her father shouted angrily. “It does not have to be like that,” Mrs. Dalton suddenly said, catching everyone's attention. “What do you mean?” Mr. Dalton asked, while the patriarch and matriarch looked at her expectantly. "Well, if the wedding goes on as planned, then the reputation of the Blaqk family will not be ruined, and they won't be that angry,” she said. “Are you saying that we should switch brides?” her father asked with incredulousness. “Yes. After the wedding and he finds out, we will tell him that she is the goddaughter of our family, and we will say the same to the media; we can just twist things," she said, and they all looked convinced. "Well, who is going to be the new bride then?” Mr. Dalton asked. "Well, it will be too dangerous to involve any more people in this matter, so how about the little journalist girl? Mrs. Dalton said while looking at me, and everyone followed to look at me. “What ?” I asked angrily.
