Chapter 11

Nikolai looked me dead in the eyes after he lifted his sunglasses and I just returned a smile. I shrugged my shoulders. “Who cares if I cannot swim? I can still bathe in the sea without knowing how to do so,” I defended. “That’s what lifeguards are for. And not to mention, floaties are everywhere.” He just shook his head as he put our luggage in the trunk upon our car’s arrival. We drove for about 20 minutes away from the airport and finally, finally, finally. We stepped out of the car and right before us was the resort that my father newly acquired. He said that this was his wedding gift so this huge place was reserved for a whole week just for us, the newlyweds. It was no ordinary resort since it was built above the waters so it kind of looked like it was floating. A boardwalk led to three pathways and the one assigned to us was the one right at the middle—the two-storey one. Excited to explore the new place, I immediately ran inside and asked the workers where the pool was. Only then, they told me that there were several pools around the area and one of the exclusive pools was right at the room where Nikolai and I were staying. It was on the second floor so I did not waste any more time and just ran up the stairs and viola! The whole second floor was beyond amazing—we had our own large bathroom with a huge tub and even a sauna. The bedroom? I loved it! It was king-sized and the red curtains around it just made it look even more romantic. We could even still get a good view of the sea so indeed, this was way more beautiful than I expected. In the room next door, it was a mini-theater with large leather seats, perfect for watching movies with a special someone. Maybe I should find some good movies later for Nikolai and I to watch these upcoming days. I took my time looking around until I reached the living room where the clear and amazing view of the ocean was visible through the transparent windows. Sliding the door to the side, the exclusive pool greeted me along with the summer breeze. “This is just amazing.” “It is.” I turned and saw Nikolai right behind me as he also took in the beautiful view right before us. “I wonder how much this costs,” he added. “I think it’s around a couple of hundred million dollars. Why? Do you have plans to buy something like this?” I asked. “No. I was just curious and just as expected, it’s pretty expensive.” I shrugged my shoulders. “How much is expensive exactly?” I mumbled to myself. I mean… Being with Jennifer, I heard her keep on ranting about how expensive the things she wanted were, including foods in restaurants that I wished for us to eat. Sometimes, she said that $300 was too expensive. Some other times, she considered $20 as expensive. She did try explaining to me the margin between expensive and cheap, but it was too hard to understand that her explanation entered in one ear and exited in the other. Anyway, that matter aside, I turned to Nikolai to ask him if he was up to doing something first before resting, however, I saw him entering the bedroom. I followed suit and with my head peeking at the door, I saw him all plopped on the bed. “Are you going to sleep first or maybe you want to go and have a quick swim?” He just raised his hand without saying a word so I took that as sleeping first. Shrugging my shoulders, I quickly unpacked my clothes and when I was about to touch his luggage, he spoke. “Don’t bother. I will do it myself. Just go and do what you want to.” I did not need to be told twice. Grabbing my red pair of bikinis, I dashed to the bathroom and got changed before rushing to our exclusive pool. I dipped my toes first and with the hot weather, the cold touch of the water was refreshing so I did not hesitate to have a quick dip. Thankfully, the pool was not that deep so I could walk around and even go to the edge and watch the waves. Ha… It’s been some time since I left Centralia City so this was definitely something I did not want to waste. Only then, my attention shifted to my phone that suddenly rang. I hurried back to the table and saw that it was Jennifer. Answering her video call, I greeted her with a wide smile. “Ohhh… That smile… You already did it, didn’t you?” She kept raising her eyebrows while wearing a teasing smile so I glared at her. “Jennifer, not you as well! And no, we did not. Nikolai’s sleeping at the moment since we literally just arrived here.” She gave me another meaningful smile, which only meant that she did not believe a single thing I just said. She and Nikolai just know how to get on my nerves with their teasing! “By the way, have you seen them?” she asked with sparkles in her eyes once more. Confused, I said, “Seen what?” Before she could even give me a reply, Jennifer went and laughed like a madman. No, not a madman, but a witch because of her high pitched laughter. I could see her rolling over on her bed as if she just heard the funniest joke ever. I was at a loss of words because seriously… We were not on the same page at the moment. “The toys I slid in your baggage,” she said, still suppressing her giggles. “It will definitely add more excitement in your… you know…” “What toys? I unpacked a while ago and saw no toys.” A deafening silence came afterwards as we stared into each other’s eyes for a few minutes. For her to act this way, my gut feeling was telling me that she did something rather unbelievable again… Again! I narrowed my sight on her. “What toys are you actually referring to, Jennifer?” I asked again. She gave me an uncertain chuckle, looking away and biting on her nail, which she only does when she is nervous or if she knew that she messed up. “If you did not find them in your luggage, then the s*x toys are mostly in your husband’s…” she muttered, but it was so clear and sharp in my ears that it felt like my mind was so close to exploding. “S-S-S-s*x toys?” I just wanted to clarify it because who knows? I might have misheard her or something, but I was wrong as Jennifer nodded her head. “Yes…” “Jennifer!” Even before I could confront her about it, she yelled bye right on my face and ended the call. Oh, no! I-I should get those back before Nikolai unpacks. I grabbed a towel and wiped myself first before dashing right into our bedroom with the hopes that Nikolai was still asleep and left his luggage untouched. However, upon opening the door, he was right on the side of the bed with his luggage open. And guess what? He was holding one of the s*x toys that was like… That was like… In a shape of… Of… Of a damn pen*s! Our gazes met and hell knew how my face felt hotter than ever out of embarrassment. He even showed it to me with a curious look on his face. “I do not know how this ended up in my luggage, but seeing how freaked out you are… I guess you finally realized that you misplaced it.” He then shifted his gaze back to his luggage. “Or rather… Misplaced them. You brought quite a lot though.” I never said a word as I strutted my way towards him. It took me a lot of courage to do that, most especially that he was examining each of those toys that Jennifer carelessly hid in his pack. I grabbed them away from his touch. “These are not mine. I-It was j-just Jennifer playing a prank!” I defended myself. “Ah, no need to feel so embarrassed about it. I totally understand if you masturb*te–” “I do not do such a thing!” Opening the trash can, I threw them all away and I just hoped that even the earth would open up right underneath me and gobble me all away from this place. I… I cannot believe this! “You sure?” he asked, “‘Cause I won’t judge you for doing it. It’s completely normal–” “I-I said I do not engage in such acts!” I had no idea what exactly happened, but my embarrassment just suddenly converted into tears. He had been teasing me ever since on our way here and Jennifer had to make a mistake like this and… And now, he was making fun of me! Not wanting to hear another word, I stormed out of the bedroom and grabbed the bathrobe before totally leaving. I… I just do not have any idea how to deal with this kind of situation. It was more than clear that he was just joking, but I cannot bring myself to just laugh at it or just ignore it. I just got inside the first floor of the resort since it was accessible for the public. There were quite a lot of people around so I just went to the balcony and occupied the beach bed at the side, hugging my knees together. This was not what I expected to happen on our first day here. That Jennifer… I would definitely make her pay for this once I get back to Centralia City! Grrr… Heaving a sigh, I just stayed there watching the surfers from afar until the sun started to set. Even then, I still had no courage to return to our room. Maybe, I should just spend my night here… Just thinking about what happened a while ago made me feel embarrassed all over again. Why was this even happening when it was supposed to be our honeymoon?! Only then, someone put a glass of drink that had several sliced fruits on it like pears, oranges, and even red berries on the table right next to me. It looked tempting in the eyes so I gazed at the man who just sat on the next beach bed and it was someone I never saw before. Somehow, he did not give off this bad or dangerous vibe at all so I was not alarmed at all. “You have been staying here just looking outside. Don’t you want to go and swim for a while?” he asked with a smile that seemed to shine brighter than the sun. S-Somehow, it felt like he was giving me this golden retriever vibe, which was the same thing I felt when I first met Jennifer’s golden retriever. I flashed a smile at him. “I-I’m fine… Just watching others swim makes me feel like I also swam myself.” He chuckled. “That’s rather a different kind of feeling. You can drink that one. It’s good.” “T-Thank you.” Since he offered, I did not hesitate to take a sip and he was right… It was indeed good. Good was not even the right word to describe it. It just had this sort of fruit juice explosion in my mouth so in a matter of seconds, I drank half of it. “Your blue eyes are much prettier than the ocean,” he suddenly complimented, making me giggle. “Thanks.” I outreached my hand towards him and added, “I’m Calypso–” “My wife.” We both shifted our attention to the man who said those two words and who else could it be? It was none other than Nikolai and he did not look quite friendly at all.
