Chapter 6 So-called Fake Best friend

1195 Words
Lucy and Alexa sat comfortably at a cozy, small table tucked away in a quiet corner of their beloved pizza place. The familiar aroma of freshly baked dough and melting cheese enveloped the air, enticing their taste buds. They indulged in their customary order: a delectable pepperoni pizza adorned with generous slices of the savory meat, accompanied by warm and aromatic garlic bread. Midway through their meal, as they savored each bite, Lucy couldn't help but notice a subtle change in Alexa's demeanor. Concern etched into Lucy's eyes, she turned her gaze towards Alexa and gently voiced her worry, "Hey, are you okay? You seem a little distant today." Alexa paused, lifting her eyes from her pizza slice and allowing a heavy sigh to escape her lips. "Nope, I'm alright," she replied, her voice tinged with a hint of weariness. "I'm just feeling a bit overwhelmed." Lucy's brow furrowed as she contemplated the significance behind Alexa's words. She couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that something deeper was troubling her friend. A fleeting thought crossed her mind once again— could Alexa have discovered the secret affair between Lucy and Alexa's boyfriend? Suppressing this unsettling notion, Lucy attempted to rationalize the situation, reminding herself that everything appeared normal between them. With a determined resolve, she pushed aside the lingering suspicion, hoping it was merely her imagination running wild. Lucy nodded her head in a show of empathy, but in reality, she felt a sense of satisfaction seeing Alexa in such a vulnerable state. Despite this, Lucy hesitated for a moment before deciding to broach a topic that had been weighing on her mind. "Actually, there's something else I wanted to talk to you about," she began, her voice soft and tentative. "David mentioned to me that he's been worried about you lately. He really wants you to go see him tonight." Alexa's reaction was swift and unexpected. Her eyes widened in surprise and apprehension as she struggled to make sense of David's concern. “What? Why is he worried about me?" she asked, her voice tinged with unease. "Did he say anything else?" Lucy's expression grew stern as she looked at Alexa. "Come on, Alexa. You know why he's worried about you," she said firmly. "He's been wanting to see you ever since everything happened between you and your mate. He just wants to make sure you're doing alright, and maybe… talk about your marriage?" Alexa furrowed her brow in confusion, her mind struggling to comprehend the sudden mention of marriage. "Ummm… our marriage?" she asked, seeking clarification from Lucy. "Obviously. You guys should get married," Lucy replied matter-of-factly, leaving Alexa stunned and speechless. It dawned on her that David was probably eager to confirm their wedding date since her previous mate had finally rejected her. The thought left a sour taste in her mouth, and she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that settled in the pit of her stomach. As Alexa processed the implications of Lucy's words, a sudden realization hit her. Alexa understood that David's eagerness to get married was not out of love or affection, but rather a calculated move to further his own ambitions. Lucy's smile widened as she spoke, "Your mate rejected you, so there won't be any issues anymore for you both. You guys can get married without any worries now." Her words were meant to reassure Alexa, but the latter saw right through them. Alexa couldn't shake off the feeling that Lucy was all too eager for her to marry David. The thought of her best friend conspiring against her for her own gain made her stomach churn. She knew that Lucy and David were both in on the scheme to kill her and take over her pack. How could she forgive their betrayal? Her own lover and her best friend had been cheating on her, and it made her feel sick to her stomach. As Lucy's smile remained fixed on her face, Alexa felt a sense of anger and frustration boil inside of her. How could she have been so naive to trust the people she loved and cared about? David needed power, and he wanted to eliminate anyone who posed a threat to his rise to the top. Alexa's mind drifted to thoughts of her Mate Ryan, the one who had turned her down. She couldn't help but wonder what might have happened if he had accepted her offer? She considered the idea that it would have been simple to undermine her partner, David, if her mate had been accepted her offer! However, that was not the case, and now Alexa was left waiting until her wedding day to exact her revenge. Suddenly, Alexa was brought back to the present by Lucy's voice. "Alexa," Lucy said, causing Alexa to look up at her. "Where were you lost?" Lucy inquired, noticing the faraway look in Alexa's eyes. Alexa simply shook her head, not wanting to divulge her true thoughts and feelings to her so called Fake Best friend. Lucy reached out and took one of Alexa's hands in her own, offering a warm smile that caused Alexa to look up at her. "I understand that it can all feel overwhelming," Lucy said reassuringly, "but everything will come to an end eventually. I have faith that you will find your peace in due time, and I will be there for you when that day comes." Despite Lucy's kind words, Alexa couldn't help but feel uneasy as she looked into her friend's eyes. There was a sense of cruelty lurking beneath Lucy's smile, and Alexa couldn't shake the feeling that Lucy was indirectly telling her that she would be happy on the day that Alexa died. As she sat there, Alexa couldn't believe how blind she had been all these years. She had always trusted Lucy implicitly, but now she realized that she may have been wrong to do so. The realization left her feeling vulnerable and uncertain about who she could trust moving forward. Lucy turned to Alexa and asked, "So, are you meeting with David tonight?" Alexa met her gaze with a sense of unease, but nodded her head in agreement nonetheless. "Yes, I am," she replied quietly, her voice betraying the anxiety she felt about the impending meeting. Lucy's eyes lit up with excitement as she clapped her hands together. "Great! I can't wait for your wedding anymore!" she exclaimed, a wide grin spreading across her face. "I'll be the first person to enjoy it as much as I want! After all, it's my best friend's wedding!" She giggled, seemingly unaware of the dark thoughts that were racing through Alexa's mind. Alexa forced a smile onto her face, gritting her teeth as she did so. She couldn't help but feel a sense of resentment towards Lucy. Alexa knew that she had to keep up appearances and pretend that she was happy about the wedding. She resolved to put on a brave face and get through the night, no matter how difficult it might be. "b***h! How much longer do we have to put up with this, Alexa?" Ada voiced her discontent in her head.
