Chapter 2: If I Knew Then, What I Know Now

1235 Words
I continued to sit there in fear, before I realized it was only Orwin. "Orw-" I was so excited to see him that I forgot to keep quiet. He put his hand on my mouth and looked behind him slowly turning his head back around being sure to listen before speaking. "What are you doing here still?!?!" He scolded me in a hushed whisper. "I came back for my bag I left behind, before I could leave some pack members came in and trashed the place. I stayed hidden till the close was clear, I didn't want to risk getting caught so I sat here for an extra 10 to be sure they left." I whispered back slowly trying to get out from under the stairs. Orwin smiles at me, "I see you found my gifts I left for you." "Very funny, Orwin." I whisper playfully glaring at him. "What you used to LOVE playing little red riding hood." he said teasingly "Yeah when I was like 5...wait how did you know??" I caught him off guard and he's blushing and rubbing the back of his neck. I was about to press on when I heard a foot step from upstairs, both Orwin and I looked at each other in surprise. He puts a finger to his lips and points to the back door.      Swiftly and quietly be made our way to the back door and outside. "Come with me." I say to Orwin, surely he must know by now that I adore him. He takes my hands and looks at me with so much love in his eyes "You know I want to, but I can't. I have a duty to do for my pack." He brushes my bangs back behind my ear with his hand and cups my cheek. "Now, now don't cry. We'll find our way back to each other again. Somehow." he says as he wipes my tears from my cheek, he kisses my forehead, my cheek, and then finally my lips. I wanna stay in this moment forever. I could care less if Orwin isn't my official mate. To me he is, he's everything I ever wanted. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have taken up herbology. I've lost the love of my life, even if it just officially began. We continued our kiss passionately, completely forgetting the danger we're both in. In the end though he pulls away tears in his eyes "I hate goodbyes." I say as fresh tears form and fall. "Well then let's not leave this at goodbye, how about see you soon?" He wipes tears away from my cheeks as he begins to cry too. "I like that better." I say as I leaned in wrapping my arms around him. "When will I see you again tho?" I ask, burying my face into his shirt. "Soon." is all he said and pulled me off him and kissed me more passionately than before sending sensations waves of heat through my whole body. I press my body against his, I need to get closer. I kiss him back and this time he pushes his body against me making my body practically feel like it's on fire. I let out a soft moan and he pushes me up against the siding of my house, I need him closer. He uses his left hip to move my right leg aside and he presses closure to me. I could feel his bulge on my inner thigh, making my body feel like an inferno. Stupid clothes, they need to come off. I try to take off Orwin's shirt but he's not letting me, so I pull away from him "We need to stop." I say breathlessly. Orwin's eyes are completely black and growls at me "Your right, you need to go." His voice is deeper, more raspy and just as breathless. I whimper at the thought of leaving him. My practice was not worth it, what have I done..."We'll continue this another time." he adds, I kiss him passionately again and pull away "You promise?" I ask "I promise." He says with a crazy grin "Till next time then." I made a wide grin of my own and kissed him one last time, made one good grab at his package and winked at him before running off into the forest. Leaving my love behind forever.     I cried as I ran, through being chased for 5 hours and sleeping that night in a tree. My tears fell in silence, I know it in my heart, soul, and body now that Orwin was and is my mate. Though, he's not my fated mate, I love him wholeheartedly. I wish I hadn't been so selfish, but then again I couldn't just wait until all of the elders died to establish new rules. Guess the saying is true, can't teach an old dog new tricks. Staring up at the stars through the trees I began counting them, to try and help me go to sleep.      I woke up early in morning to a woodpecker doing its' work on a nearby tree. The sun hasn't ever popped through the trees yet and without thinking I rolled over, forgetting I was sleeping in a tree and fell to the ground. Good thing I chose a very bushy low to the ground tree, otherwise I would have some serious injuries. Brushing off the leaves and sticks that stuck to me I look for any open wounds. Luckily I sustained nothing worse than a few bruises, I wonder if I should go back and look for Orwin....or should I just forget him? After all he's not my real mate; just a crush.. a menacing growl behind me pulled me out of my thoughts. Without turning around I ran and transformed into my wolf form, with a beautiful rich brown coat with dark patches around my eyes, few dark patches on my back and ears. What sets me apart from all regular wolves is that not only are my patches unusually shaped but my chin and underbelly is an orange apricot color. I ran as fast as I could, i refused to turn around. I fear if I looked back even once I'd either run into something or worse someone. This didn't stop me from looking around for some place to hide. I was about to dart to the right and head for the river when out of nowhere a black mangy wolf blocks my path, I skidded to a halt just a few paces away from him. His ears pointed back he shows his teeth and growls at me. He's not from the Blood Moon pack, I know that for fact because he doesn't give off the scent of a member would. His scent was a mixed of something metallic and rotting. My only guess is that he's a rogue, he's smaller than me and most definitely skinner too. I took a fighting stance, putting my ears back, and letting out my own growl saying "get out of my way." Behind me I heard a twig snap, that could only be my chaser. I just ran into a trap, as if on cue to my realization 12 other wolves came out of hiding making a complete circle around me. There was no way I was making out of this unharmed, but I didn't back down.
