Chapter 5: Moving In Together (3) *** “It’s really good! Here take a bite, it has quinoa and white fish in it.” Elizabeth moved her plate closer to the man. “Use my fork if you don’t mind it of course…” “Thanks…” Gabriel was a bit hesitant but took the fork in his hand and some of the salad as the woman suggested. “Wow… it’s surprisingly good this…” He hadn’t tasted anything like it before and maybe he found it so delicious just because it was the woman he had feelings for that offered it to him. But regardless he really liked the taste. “I know, right? And it’s rather filling, sometimes I can’t finish the salad on my own, oh do you want some more? I can get you a plate.” Elizabeth suggested, the other nodded his head. As they continued to eat calmly Elizabeth began thinking to herself. ‘Somehow… It’s really comforting to be together with him…’ “After this we’re heading straight to work, right?” Gabriel asked as he carried the dishes into the sink and began washing them. “Yes, it’s going to be only for a few hours, I know you must be tired so just for a bit. Later you can make sure of the apartment as you see fit. I have Netflix, you watch a movie or something…” Elizabeth said as she went into the bedroom. “You’re not going to be here?” Gabriel asked, he dropped the sponge he’d been holding in his hands on the ground. As he extended his hand to pick it up he heard the woman’s response. “I’m going on a date tonight. An old classmate of mine organized it and I couldn’t turn it down. I might be in late… but if I happen to come back earlier we could watch something together.” Elizabeth said as she looked through her closet for clothes for work today. She choose a black skirt that was a bit above her knees and a black sleeveless top. For jewelry she put on simple golden earrings and a golden necklace with a small red crystal on it. ‘Yeah… I forgot she probably goes on dates…’ Gabriel thought to himself as he picked up the sponge and washed it under the running water. ‘Somehow… I don’t know why I thought we’d be spending more time together like this… I should probably go work at the bar after this…’ “Do you have any plans for tonight?” Elizabeth asked as she entered in the kitchen. “Ah… sorry to make you wash all the dishes by yourself…” “No, prob-” Gabriel turned to look at the woman who was already dressed up for work. “Is something… the matter?” Elizabeth asked as she noticed the man stopped moving for a couple of seconds there. “No, just each time I see you in a new outfit I can’t help but think how pretty you are…” Gabriel unconsciously said. ‘Wait... did I just say it out loud?’ “You’re so kind!” Elizabeth said with a smile on her face. “So…. About tonight if you’d like you can come with me. I could invite a friend over and it can be a double date… Ah, of course you don’t need to date her or anything it’s just going to be a dinner.” “Wouldn’t I be intruding… it’s your date after all?” Gabriel asked as he finished washing the dishes and turned off the faucet. “It’s nothing really… And I don’t even like the guy… When I saw his pictures I already thought it was going to be a difficult date. You being there is going to make it much more fun. Like the other night when we were at the bar.” Elizabeth explained as she leaned next to the wall, awaiting the other’s answer. “Sure, I’ll come with…” Gabriel finally agreed. ‘I guess… it’s not so bad…’ He thought to himself as he forced a smile. “Great! I’ll call Jennifer in a bit! Ah, go get dressed, I’ll drive you to work.” Elizabeth said as she picked up her phone, excitedly calling her friend… * * * ‘We’re living together… we’re even going to work together… we’re going on dates together… yet we’re… um… what are we?’ Gabriel couldn’t help wondering to himself as he worked that day. Unconsciously he carried more weight than he’d usually carry, thus finished his work much earlier as well. “You’re really working hard today, aren’t you?” Abigail, the newest waitress remarked as she in a way admired the man’s hard work. “Just the usual…” On the other hand Gabriel answered her with not as much interest as the other was showing him. He already had his thoughts pre-occupied with other matters. “Hey… you’re in University, aren’t you? You’re in your second year of your master’s degree aren’t you?” Abigail asked with a charming smile on her face but the other didn’t seem to notice it as he was looking out the window as if counting the birds that flew by. “Yeah.” Gabriel replied as he heard the door opening behind him, it was Elizabeth who finished her own workload for that day. “Then we’re about the same age! It’s so good to have someone the same age as me given the rest of the staff is so old…” Abigail remarked as she leaned on the counter. “Lizzy… are you done for the day?” Gabriel completely ignored the other woman talking to him and turned to face Elizabeth instead. “Yes, are you done too? We can head home and watch a movie before going on our date.” Elizabeth said as she checked the time on her phone, they still had about three hours before they had to meet at the arranged place. “Huh? You two are dating?” Abigail asked in surprise as she turned to the two people talking amongst themselves. “No, no we’re friends. But we are going on a double date tonight.” Elizabeth remarked as she smiled brightly at the new waitress’s direction. “Abby… you have clients on table five and two…” She remarked after noticing people were raising their hands not being serviced. “Huh? Oh… I’ll go now…” Abigail turned around quickly and grabbed her notepad and pen, headed to the table she was still thinking about what she just heard. ‘So they’re just friends… that’s nice…’
