Chapter Two

"Can we talk?" I ask Melody as I peep into her office.

She looks at me and turns back her attention to her desktop totally ignoring me. She's definitely mad at me. I wish she could understand, I didn't want the boss punishing us, especially me, I try to avoid dragging my dad into my job because he always tries to get an excuse of seeing me as an incompetent officer so that I can lose my job, I don't know why he so against me being an officer of the law when he is one.

I'm just following on his footsteps. Is that such a bad thing to do?

"Look, Mel I'm sorry."

She still doesn't say anything.

"I can't perfectly handle a gun, really?"

Oh.

What the boss said, I didn't know it got to her that much.

I walk into her office and sit on the seat opposite her.

"What would I even be doing here if I didn't know how to handle a gun?" She picks her gun from the table and points it at my direction and I swear my heart does a jump.

"Mel what are you doing?"

I don't even know why my voice is shaking, she is my best friend and I'm sure she can't do anything to me with that gun.

She bursts a laughter which makes me calm and I force a smile.

"You think I'd shoot you?"

"You know I'm scared of guns being pointed towards me." When I tell her that she quickly puts the gun down and she has this apologetic look on.

The moment she places it on the table, I let out a sigh breath.

"I'm so sorry Cass, I'm just pissed at that stupid boss for always thinking we aren't very qualified officers."

"As a matter of fact we are." She nods her head in agreement.

I met Melody at camp when I was training to be an officer, she said that was never her dream but she always says dreams change and that's how she found herself in that camp.

She always wanted to do service for the public, to save lives but since she couldn't make it to be a doctor she thought the best way would be to do it with a gun in her hand.

That's all she gave me regarding her being there, I didn't have much to tell her besides the fact that my dad was a big guy in the police service, so I wanted to be like him.

My dad started off as an army officer, most of his younger years he was always at war, I didn't like it at first because I never got to spend time with him, we never did that as a family, but then as time passed he came back home and got a superior rank, he is one of the best investigative officers I know, he has done quite a good job in his years and I always want to be like him.

And that's how I got myself in this office with a gun and a uniform, not forgetting a boss who never thinks I'm good enough.

"I really wanted to go with you on that operation." She says after a long silence.

"Yea, me too."

We've worked on it together, she was actually the one that found the mole, we have done quite a lot of things to get that guy to talk, she has sacrificed most and her being excluded is so wrong.

I wish we could be able to convince our boss to kick off Phoina from the mission and replace her with Melody, because honestly, I don't know how we will work with that b***h. She pisses me every time I lay my eyes on her.

"But, when you go there make sure you show them that you are one of the best officers in this unit, just don't let our hard work... My hard work go to waste, okay?"

I nod.

"I promise."

Mel met Teddy at a night club, he was this handsome guy who was sort of crushing on her, he knew her, but then Pineville is a small town, everyone knows everyone, they had a thing which kept on for a while until she found out Teddy wasn't who she thought he was.

He was part of the group.

The Five.

He wasn't among the five, at least that's what he told her, but he was among their gang men.

Mel called me one morning her voice shaking and she sounded scared, she said she had gone through his phone and found compromising stuff, she was scared that he would kill her.

That's when I switched to daddy mode and thought of a way that we would work with Teddy to our own advantage, and I didn't expect it would be so easy.

I asked her to keep him in the house until I got back. My dad, brother and I had gone for a vacation and I had to cancel that and travel back.

She managed to keep him, and when I got back, that's when all hell broke loose, Teddy knew we had him cornered, a little torture and he agreed to work with us, after all he had been sent as a mole for the gang, he had used my friend, lied to her, got her in bed when all he was doing was investigate on her, it was high time we returned the favour, and he gave us a lot I must say.

We promised to have him not arrested or murdered when things go down, Mel did promise, because she is sort of still attached to him, I didn't, but I played along.

Now is the time for us to end it all.

"And make sure you kill Teddy."

That catches me as a surprise.

"What?"

"He lied to me, used me, I was waiting for this moment to make him pay, promise you will do it for me."

I'm already shaking my head.

"I can't do that, if you want him dead you'll have to do it yourself."

"But we all know I can't because I'm not going with you guys."

I love her, but I won't let her use me to do her dirty work. Besides, if that guy dies she will hate me for life, I know she's still mad at him but, she still cares about him.

"I'm not doing it." I tell her as I push my seat back.

Mel can be a little complicated and I'm not going to play that game with her.

She wants to kill her man, she should do it herself. I'm not doing the dirty work for her.

"Why?"

"Because..." I take a long pause. She raises her brow suspiciously.

"Because you love him."

There, I said it, the only reason she's mad at Teddy is because along the games that they were playing, she fell in love with him, and she hates the fact that she is falling in love with a criminal when she's supposed to be putting him in jail.

"That's a lie."

"Is it?" I know her so well.

"Get out of my office."

Really?

I tell her the truth and she chases me out if her office?

I know she is in a bad mood so, I do as she says, we will talk later when she's calmed down.

I guess I'll have coffee instead.

I'm walking to the office kitchen when I notice Phoina in the hallway, she keeps  looking over her shoulder suspiciously as she walks to the washrooms. Something about how she behaves makes me follow her to the washrooms.

Coffee can wait.

And shock on me.

The moment I open the door I find her pinned on the wall with the boss hovering over her and they are kissing like there's no tomorrow.

"Oh my God!"

They didn't seem to notice me get in and when they see me Phoina yelps and steps away from the boss.

"It's nothing....I...I can explain." She stammers.

Phoina and the boss are having an affair?

Isn't the boss supposed to be married? And Phoina, she supposedly has a crush on Jax. Okay I'm confused.

"You two are having an affair?"

"You saw nothing Cassidy, and I'm sure you love your job." The boss says and walks out. But there's no way in hell I'm letting him get away with it just because he is the boss. I caught him doing something that's not allowed in the office, he doesn't get to order me now.

"Sir... Mr Tulle?"

"What Cassidy?"

"I can tell my dad what I saw here you know?"

That catches his attention and he turns to look at me.

"You wouldn't."

I smirk. Who has the upper hand now?

"I would and he wouldn't hesitate firing your ass. Trust me." I'm enjoying this so much.

"Cassidy you can't." Phoina says and my smirk widens.

Oh, but I can.

She even got my name right.

"I thought it was Cassandra for you."

"I'm sorry about that."

My best friend is mad  at me that she won't be going for the operation with me and the boss thinks she is an under qualified officer, it's time we change that.

"I can keep whatever I saw in this walls only if you do me a favour, Sir."

"I'm not..."

I raise a brow and he huffs out an aggravated breath.

"Fine, what do you want?"

I grin.

"I want to go with Melody on the operation."

"And get the both of you killed?"

Ugh.

"Why won't you trust us for once?"

He stays quiet for a moment before he speaks again.

"Fine, you two will go, Phoina will stay, at least if you two get killed I can keep having the affair with her peacefully."

He did not...jerk.

He walks out with a smirk on his face just when Mel walks in.

Phoina walks towards me boldly.

"I will make sure I go for that operation, there's no way I can leave you two with Jax alone, trust me you can't stop me." She says and walks away swaying her hips.

"What was that?"

Melody asks once they've both left.

"Let's just say we will be going on the operation with you instead of Phoina, I caught them in a very compromising position."

"You mean Mr Tulle and Phoina?.." She asks as she signals her two fingers together.

"Yeap."

"Gross."

"I know."

"I'm sorry about how I behaved earlier." She says as she looks at herself in the mirror.

"It's okay. I understand."

The next thing that follows is us hugging each other like two best friends, I love her so much.

My phone buzzes and when I check I see my brother's text.

"I need to meet up with Sankey, I'll see you at our usual place." She nods and I walk out of the washroom.

The day won't end as bad as I thought it would.

I sort of have an upper hand on the boss now, and my best friend is still my best friend, I just have to meet up with Teddy and have our final talk on how we should attack and when the operation is done, I should be ready to kiss my upgraded badge as I welcome my detective rank.

Just when I'm walking out of the washrooms, the lights go off and I feel as a cold hand grabs my arm and I'm pulled into the gents.

My heart is racing as I try to reach for my gun, but whoever it is pins me on the wall swiftly in a way that I can't move.

This is so scary.
