Chapter 9
Stunned silence followed Keith Butler’s words. Pastor McFarland was astonished; the younger man had insulted the town and demeaned Rebecca all in the same breath. He looked around, recognizing a look of anger on Lois’s face and a smile of glee on the mayor’s. Glancing back to Keith, the pastor had an uncharacteristic urge to slap the smug look off his face.
Decorum was called for at this moment, not a confrontation. The pastor would have to tread lightly. The mayor however seemed eager to stir the pot.
"Well, I'm sure that Rebecca will be excited to see her fiancée. I'd be happy to walk you over to the station and show you around town as we go, Mr. Butler."
