Chapter 6
By the time Rebecca reached Skipton Station, so had the news of the morning’s events; from Mr. Winders’s fight with the parking meter to the arrival of the stranger in town. Mavis Styles was watching from the window for her arrival. Mavis and Sarah Skipton had worried over Rebecca and her relationship with Keith over a cup of tea many times. Both women worried over the hold the man held over her.
She stood at the door of the station, ready to offer her young friend a shoulder to lean on if she wished. Rebecca walked up stairs to the entry, caught up in her own thoughts. When she saw Mavis, Rebecca forced a brave smile, and knew instinctively that she had already heard the news of Keith’s appearance at the restaurant. It never failed to amaze her how fast word spread in Skipton.
