The absolute astonishment in her voice caused all three men to look at Rebecca before turning their attention back to the scowling man standing in front of their table. Pastor McFarland felt Rebecca tremble next to him, and he patted her hand, reassuring her he was there for support. Nathan noticed the movement and looked at Rebecca, seeing for himself the mixture of fear and astonishment on her face. He straightened his shoulders, prepared to come to her defense in any way he could. Nudging Scott with his foot, Nathan made the man next to him aware of the undercurrents that were going on at their table.
