Clary's POV
*Twelve Years Later*
My alarm clock blared in my ears and I blindly slammed my hand down on it. "Wake up, Clary!" I groaned at the sound of my dad and sat up, hating the disgusting taste in my mouth.
"I'm up!" I called back, knowing he'd use his alternitive methods to wake me up. Cold water, air horn, taking all of my blankets and pillows.
I stood and walked to the bathroom down the hall, brushing my teeth beside my brother as he did the same.
"Morning, Clare." He kissed my head and walked out, so I spit out the toothpaste, started the shower and did my mouthwash while it heated up.
The hot water felt amazing against my skin and when I got back to my room, dad had already got all of my books and school stuff ready.
Today, everyone was going back to school, since it's the beginning of July. We started early for some reason this year.
Walking inside my walk-in closet, I picked out a casual outfit for school. Just a dark plaid shirt of Jon's, black jeans, black Vans and a black backpack.
"Princess! Breakfast!" I grabbed my bag, freshened myself up and skipped downstairs. "Good morning, princess."
Dad kissed my cheek as I entered the kitchen. "Morning, daddy." We walked back to the dining room and started eating. Jon came down and did the same.
"So, Maryse and Robert and everyone are moving back into the house next door today, so they should be here by the time you get home." I nodded and shoveled the eggs into my mouth.
"Alec and Izzy will be going to my school, right?" Jon asked and dad nodded. "Cool."
"Clare, did you take your meds?" I shook my head. "Well, you need to take them before you leave."
"I will." I glanced at my watch and realized that I needed to leave. I took my plate to the kitchen and decided to clean it later before pouring a to-go cup full of coffee. "I'll take my meds in the car, I promise. But, I can't be late."
"Alright. Have a good day, princess." Dad kissed my cheek, I grabbed my backpack and ran out to the town car.
"Ready to go, Ms. Morgenstern?" I nodded and we drove away with me in the backseat, lighting up a cigarette and rolling down the window a little.
So, I am fifteen, almost sixteen, and I am a strange kind of teenage girl. I am in my sophomore year of college because I'm so smart, whereas my older brother, Jon, is still in high school.
Weird, right?
I have a thing called Chronic Depression, which I take medicine for, but it doesn't always help. I have my good days and my bad days, but the cigarettes help to calm me. That's the only reason dad lets me smoke them.
When I was little, after I started to live with my dad, I remember missing my mother. But, now, I could give two shits less if the woman died.
Fuck her. I hate her. Which, my therapist thinks is bad for me, and I know that it is, but she's done nothing to contradict my feelings. So, I won't change them.
My brother and my dad are the only family I need. And, the Lightwood's. The Lightwood's are like family to me. And, Simon.
"Almost there, Ms. Morgenstern." I nodded and took my pills, knowing it'd be really bad if I didn't.
"Thanks, Walter." He smiled at me through the rearview mirror.
"Well, I am your personal driver after all." I smiled back at him. Dad didn't have time to drive me everywhere, and neither did Jon, so dad hired me a driver. The same one every time. Walter Jenkins. A forty-eight year old man that has nothing better than to drive a teenage girl around.
We stopped out front and I said goodbye to Walter, heading inside one of the buildings of New York University.
I had the opportunity to go to Harvard in Boston, but I wanted to stay close to home. Not uproot my family for my own selfish reasons.
Dad also didn't trust people around me, so I have a bodyguard to watch over me at school.
Sometimes, I wished I could forget the first few years of my life, but I'm never able to make that wish come true.

When I got home, at about five, I was happy to see a moving truck next door, a team of movers carrying everything in.
I walked inside our house and was immediately engulfed in a hug by Alec. "Hey, Clare. I missed you." I laughed and hugged him back.
"Missed you, too, Alec." We pulled away and he moved out of the way, letting Izzy smother me in a hug. "Can't.... breathe, Iz." She giggled and pulled away.
"God, did I miss my best friend."
"I missed you, too." She squealed and hugged me again, but not tight enough to take away my breath.
"Clary." I accepted a hug from Maryse, then another from Robert.
"You've grown way too much for my liking." I laughed at him.
"Clary!" Max ran in from the kitchen and I kneeled down to his height, hugging him tightly.
"Maxy." He pulled away and I smiled just as brightly back at him.
"Clary, I don't believe you've met Jace, our adopted son." Maryse gestured to the blonde haired guy and my smile faltered.
"Nice to meet you." I said, but it was merely to be polite. I don't like men that I don't know.
"You as well." I set my books down on the coffee table and set my backpack down on the floor.
"Princess, come here for a minute!" Dad yelled from the kitchen and I did as I was told. "How was school?"
"Fine. What'd you need?"
"I wanted you to order a couple of pizzas for us and the Lightwood's. I was going to go help them move in."
"I can order it." He smiled and kissed my head.
"Thank you, baby girl." I nodded and walked back to the living room.
"What kind of pizza does everyone want?" I asked.
"Um, I think sausage and pepperoni would be okay with us." Robert said.
"Okay then." I grabbed my phone and wandered into a different room as I ordered the pizza. "Yes, Ralph, three large pizzas, one sausage, one pepperoni, one with sausage and pepperoni."
"That's a lot of pizza."
"Sharing with friends."
"Alright. I'll put the order in. It should be there in thirty or forty minutes."
"Thank you."
"Uh-huh." I hung up the phone, grabbed my school stuff and walked down the hall to my office, starting on my assignments.
