Shane playing basketball… what a sight!
I’ve never been hit on by a guy before –since I always had Ace and my bodyguards by my side, they didn’t allow anyone even the mere chance to get close to me– but then there was Shane, a werewolf brave enough to hit on me.
When he finished beating the hell out of Ace’s team, he came straight towards me.
“Your friends suck at Basketball.”
They don’t, I wanted to retort, to gloat by telling him they were simply asked by my dad not to stand out, and then thought better of it and giggled softly.
How ignorant can werewolves be? Vampires were as good in sports as them, if not better. It was not my place to tell him that, however, and thus I kept my mouth shut, wanting to please him, needing to, somehow.
“So tell me, what brought you guys here?” He asked seriously.
“Well, we had to settle somewhere,” I laughed nervously, feeling the need not to reveal I was Blake The Troublemaker’s daughter just yet. If I were to tell him that my parents thought it would be good for me to have a chance to mingle with teenagers, to get a taste of human life before I awaken as a vampire, then the questions would surely start… vampires have creators, rarely parents.
“Yeah, right.” He conceded after a small pause. “Well, you have to come introduce yourself to the pack.” He told me with a smirk.
“Why is that?” I asked, tilting my head to the side in puzzlement. My dad hadn’t told me about needing to do such a thing.
“I don’t want anyone to mistake you for a rampaging leech. You’re much too beautiful.” He informed me in a whisper while drawing close to me.
Vampires don’t blush. Otherwise, I would have.
“Good thing I’m not a rampaging leech,” I told him with a smug smirk.
Peter, Jeff and Ace were keeping tabs on us, so to speak. And when Shane came closer to me, they came immediately.
“Don’t you dare even think about it, mutt,” Peter told him with all the disdain he could muster, whereas Ace simply drawled, “I would strongly suggest you leave her alone.”
“Argh, get out of my face!” I yelled at them, before Shane got to say anything, and I saw the pain flash in Ace’s eyes.
Somewhere deep within me, I, too, was hurt… I was hurt for he was simply hurting, but that couldn’t be, could it? I was after all not in love with him, even though we were mates.
“It’s the second time you called me mutt today,” Shane growled at Peter, getting in his face, and shoving him –or at least attempting to shove him. Since Peter was not a regular vampire, that proved to be very hard.
“Want me to call you mutt a third time, mutt?” Peter retorted provokingly.
Shane’s beautiful eyes turned black in anger, the wolf within him making an appearance, and he punched Peter in the face before this latter had the time to dodge.
“Guys, seriously,” Ace let out on a defeated sigh. “Must it always come down to fists?”
“Hey, you two!” The PA instructor yelled at them as he came towards us.
Peter’s eyes turned black with ire. He then said in a deadly whisper, “You’re way out of your league, mutt,” before kicking Shane in the gut, sending him flying through the gym.
That made all our classmates stop their whispering. A few of Shane’s fellow werewolves –I could recognize them since Ace had pointed them out to me earlier– prepared to butt in when Jeff let out a simple, “You intervene, I do too. And let me assure you the ending won’t be a happy one for you guys.”
And that’s when all hell broke loose.
What an epic first day! Please note the sarcasm.
