CHAPTER 6: COMA

2592 Words
IN A FAR AWAY WORLD: “Where in the world were you when Dame Herma woke up?!!! Do the servants of the palace need to go through the training again!!!” An angry person who seemed like he was in his early twenties yelled at the poor shivering servants. “Alright, that’s enough, Regan. You are scaring the people here” Another person who looked like he was in his mid-twenties said in a calm tone, crossing his hands against his chest. He turned his head and looked at the physician tending to his aide. “What is her situation, head physician Zion?” The man asked, showing a composed expression through his violet eyes. The middle-aged man was checking up on the blonde-haired lady on the bed who stood up straight, turning to face the people in the room. His calm eyes went to the composed person, then the fuming young man and said, “Dame Herma seems to be in the same situation as she was in for the last two days, your Highness” “What do you mean, head physician Zion? You announced that she wouldn’t wake up at the very least until a week! How did she even move by herself?” The young man was loud, but it was better than when he was scolding the servants. “I suggest you curb your anger, second prince” the doctor calmly said. “Reagan” This time the composed man's tone had a hint of warning. “I’m just worried, elder brother” the young man bowed his head and said in a restraining voice. “I know, we are as worried as you are,” the first prince said with a bit of a sigh. He looked at the physician, Zion. “Please continue, head physician.” “As I was saying, Dame Herma is still recovering. She’s still in her deep sleep-like state but worry not Your Highness. Dame Herma will wake up soon”, the head physician reported. “Is this the only way? To wait until she wakes up?” The second prince, whose name is Reagan, asked, his dark violet eyes similar to his brother's, asked. The head physician sadly nodded his head and said “I could have given a high-level spellbind medicine, your highness. But Dame Herma isn’t able to use magic. No matter how strong Dame Herma is, high-level magic spells are harmful to her, Your Highness. Regardless of what kind of magic it is” There was a moment of silence before the first prince moved and asked the physician, “Is that all, head physician?” “Yes, Your Highness.” “You can leave,” the first prince said in a solemn tone. “Yes, Your Highness”, The middle-aged man gave a small bow before he left the room. “What in the goddess’s name is happening here, elder brother?” the younger prince once again asked. “Unless Aileth wakes up, it seems like we won’t know anything,” The elder prince said in a serious tone, his eyes showing the anger he was hiding for the sake of the servants. “I want her to wake up soon,” The younger prince said, looking at the pale face of the blonde lady. “She will wake up for sure,” The first prince said and looked at the sleeping Aileth. “For now, I need to handle the Herma family.” “Hmmm”, The second prince only nodded. ESTOR: “Raymond” The elderly voice of his grandmother, he opened his eyes, turning his head to look at the elder lady walking towards him with her head assistant Abel and her loyal butler Albert behind her. The two men behind her were getting worried about the royal family. The last time they saw Her Majesty in this state was when she got the news of her son and daughter-in-law’s death. The queen was a bit younger at that time, which she wasn’t now. They were getting scared for her health as well. Then their crown prince. Despite wearing that strong mask all the time, he was very fragile inside when it came to her ladyship Barclay. Scared of losing people he cared for. He could bear all the pain that their future queen was bearing if he could. In their situation, if one got hurt, the other would go through the same anguish. The queen hurriedly walked over to her grandson and held his arm, her gaze looking in between the operation theatre door and his face, “What? How is she?” There was an indistinct fear in her voice that she was trying to control. She was the queen. She couldn’t lose her composure like that. She had to be strong. For the sake of the young couple. She had to. Queen Lilian was deep in her sleep when the accident took place. Considering her health, the crown prince ordered that no one should disturb her until she wakes up. The next minute she hurried to meet her grandson. “Grandma” His voice was very hoarse as he looked down to see the queen. Tears filled the eyes of the old lady when she heard that tone from her grandson. He sounded like a lost child. The kid who cried when he heard other noble kids talking about how he didn’t have parents. “Blood, Grandma……. That….that….that was her blood, grandma” No tears fell from his electric blue eyes. But there was too much sadness in his eyes. The old ruler then smelled the rustic iron scent and noticed the dried blood in his black shirt. She hugged her grandson as she cried just like how she cried holding her one-year-old grandson twenty-six years ago. The servants and assistants turned around, giving the grandmother and grandson a moment. The light was turned off on top of the operation theatre door, indicating that the surgery was over. The first one to head out of the room was the head doctor of the royal palace. Behind her came the other two doctors who were helping the head doctor. “Your majesty, Your Highness” They bowed down when they saw the unexpected but the most powerful people of the country standing there, waiting for the news of the lady inside. The others might not have expected it, but the head doctor surely did. “How is she?” The crown prince asked, no emotions were shown on his face. The queen looked at the head doctor expectantly, for good news. “Relax,” The queen said, as they were still giving a small bow. The doctors raised facing the only two royal members. One with hope and one with no emotions displayed on his face. “Your majesty, your highness, Lady Barclay is alive. However, there is something else we would like to inform you about. Let’s wait until Lady Barclay is transferred to her room. We need to wait.” “Understood. Please take a break until Zelda is shifted to her room. You have been in the operation room for the whole night”, the queen said with a composed, kind smile. The sadness was easy to see. “Thank you, your majesty” The head doctor Elosie bowed her head in respect but all she thought in her head was, ‘Calm down, head royal doctor Elosie Barclay. Right now, she is your patient’ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “What is her condition, doctor Barclay?” Along with Elosie Barclay who was the head doctor, there were two other doctors with her in their white coats standing opposite the future queen’s bed. Instead of taking them to her room, they took her to a room that was suitable to fit the equipment of the hospital. “Your majesty, Your Highness, Lady Barclay’s condition is stable now. As I said, Lady Barclay is out of danger. But that is only for now.” The air became denser with the crown prince’s dangerous aura becoming one with the air. He asked in a low, serious tone, “What do you mean, Doctor Barclay?” “Lady Barclay’s pulse rate fell dangerously low many times while we were still operating. So, we almost lost her. Now she has fallen into an inexpiable coma. According to the reports, she should wake up in a day. But there is some unknown activity taking place in her brain. We have already contacted the specialists in this field to know more about the lady’s condition.” “Oh, lord!” The queen placed a hand on her chest, thinking of how she almost her granddaughter-in-law. She couldn’t bear to lose another person. “Is there more?” The future king asked, looking into the composed dark eyes of Doctor Barclay. “Yes, Your Highness,” The doctor said, looking into his eyes. One wouldn’t believe that she was talking about her family member and not about a person she didn’t know before. Ray turned around and looked at his grandmother, slowly opening his mouth in hesitation, and asked, “Grandmother, I…I…I want to stay with her alone for some time.” Everyone looked at the queen, but they already knew her answer. They were just waiting for her order. “Everyone, leave.” “Yes, your majesty, your highness”. They gave a bow and slowly left the room until it was only Her Majesty and her assistant in the room. “Do you want me to talk with Elosie more about Zelda’s condition?” The queen asked, taking her grandson’s hands into his. “Yes,” he said. The queen sadly looked at him before her assistant came in supporting her to go out. Raymond waited until everyone left the room and he was alone. He slowly started making heavy footsteps towards her, taking a place beside her on the huge bed. He looked around the room, his eyes reddening from too much pain. He couldn’t look around for long. He turned around and looked at Zelda finally. He wanted to touch her head and pat her, ask her to wake up soon, but he couldn’t when he saw the thick bandage wrapped around her head. He stopped himself and took her hand, which was injected with a needle into a nutritional bag with extreme care and held it. He bent his back to her and let her hand touch his forehead as he started saying, “I..I…I’m sorry, Zelda.” He was trying to control his voice breaking, but that was a limit for him. He couldn’t stop himself anymore. “It was a fault. I couldn’t protect you properly. I’m weak, but please don’t leave me” By the end of the sentence, his voice broke along with tears that finally came from his eyes. He started crying, his body shaking with his wails. “I need you. Please wake up. I could never live without you. Please, please wake up, Zelda.” He continued for a while. Those tears needed to be out. He needed to let those tears out, to become strong, to find those criminals who did that to his love, his queen. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Please take care of her, Eloise,” the queen said, looking straight into her dark black eyes. The lady bowed her head and replied to the queen, “Obviously, your majesty. Even if she isn’t his highness's fiancée or the future queen, I will always be there for her, when needed.” Queen Lilian nodded her head and thought ‘Only if her parents were as reliable as her’ Eloise Barclay. A Barclay by name but not by blood. She was Madame Barclay’s niece from her maternal family. Eloise's family all died and the Barclay couple decided to adopt the ten-year-old girl into their family. Since she wasn’t a Barclay by blood, she was bullied by the other branch family members. The only one who understood her was the future queen. Eloise suffered a lot under the Barclay family, slowly losing hope that she might never meet people who would be genuinely caring and trusting of her until little Zelda came into her life. When she realized that Zelda could become the possible future queen, she decided to help Zelda in the way possible and worked hard to enter the royal palace and to inherit her mentor who was the head doctor of the palace before her. And she did it. She was finally able to do it. “More situations could only be known after my senior goes through her medical reports, Your Majesty. However, one thing is for sure. She is in a coma, and it might even take months till Lady Barclay opens her eyes" Finally, Eloise showed some emotions in her dark black eyes. The worry, the fear, could now be seen in her eyes, resembling the pitch-black night. “Lord!” The queen sighed as they became silent. “Your majesty” The silent corridor was greeted by the queen’s palace assistant, Celia Hales. The queen slowly turned around and saw her assistant dipping into a small curtsy before she raised again. “How is Ralph doing?” the queen asked in a sad tone, no matter how hard she tried to compose her voice. It was a fearful night after all. Just one night was able to make her realize that she might lose everything once again. She was suddenly scared. If something happened to Zelda, her grandson wouldn’t be able to live. She had been living because of her grandson. If he was no more, she would lose the reason to continue her will to live any longer. “He is okay, Your Majesty. But he might take some time to recover. He will wake up soon” Celia said, her head bowed a little. “Good. As long as he can recover without any problem” the queen sighed in relief. Ralph was like another grandson to her, just like how Eloise was a granddaughter. They were the two most important people in her grandson and granddaughter-in-law’s lives. She knew how broken those two would be if something bad happened to them. “And your majesty….” Celia called out to the queen, feeling a bit hesitant. “What is it?” The queen asked, seeing her assistant becoming hesitant. “The news seems to be leaked to the public, Your Majesty. The whole country is in an uproar right now” Celia revealed the news. The queen was not shocked for one bit. Almost as if she was expecting that to happen. “Understood. I will take care of this situation.” “No. I will handle it” the crown prince heard. They turned their heads and saw the prince walking out of the room, closing the door behind him. “Your Highness” The lady slightly bowed her head. He gave a polite nod in return before he turned to look at Her Majesty. “Let me handle it, Your Majesty. Everything. Please take some rest and just handle the royal court” His tone was grave. He decided and was determined about something. His eyes were reddened due to his heavy control of emotions and also a heavy display of emotion in the room. Observing her grandson for a minute, the queen granted her permission, “Alright” The crown prince bowed his head respectfully in an official way.
