INTRODUCTION“John Ironside” was the pseudonym of Euphemia Margaret Tait (1866-1945), a British author and journalist born in Liverpool. She published nine mystery novels during the Golden Age of mystery fiction, of which The Phone Booth Mystery is the best known. In her native England, The Phone Booth Mystery was published as The Call-Box Mystery (and in France it was published as La Cabine 19. It features a traditional mystery plot: When the wife of a famous diplomat is found murdered in a telephone booth after the theft of confidential documents her husband kept in secret in his home office, chaos ensues. An innocent suspect is imprisoned and must rely on his wife and friends to exonerate him. Can they find the real culprit before he is hanged?
