Chapter 6 He Lost Her

1011 Words
Orville couldn't find Ingrid anymore. And Ingrid's report became a curse. This week, as long as he closed his eyes, he would see the result of Ingrid's report, and the inexplicable panic would overwhelm him. He didn't want to believe that it was true. But as time passed, he became more and more uncertain. In the blink of an eye, another week had passed. Orville kept himself in a high-intensity working state, and he didn't want to deal with any call from Swiftown, so he let Rex handle it. He tried everything he could to search the entire Nortown, but there was still no news. This was obviously unusual. With his connections, it was a piece of cake to find someone in Nortown. Unless she tried to erase her whereabouts and had the ability to do so! But how did Ingrid do it? Orville finally realized that things were out of his control! Ingrid used to love him with all she got. No matter how he insulted her and asked her to leave, she would never divorce him. But now, she actually disappeared... ... It was another day of no news at all. Rex stood outside the president's office, thinking of Orville's murderous gaze yesterday when he said the search had failed. Now, he felt rather scared. "Ms. Becker." Secretary Iris Carlos's respectful voice sounded, and Rex turned around to look. "Mr. Logan." Allison approached slowly in heels. She was wearing an off-white dress, and she had waist-length black hair. She looked at Rex with a gentle smile and looked extremely harmless. Rex frowned subconsciously. Some women seemed innocent and harmless, but in fact, they were more scheming than anyone. Ever since Allison returned from abroad, the rumors and fake news had never stopped. Rex would never believe that there was no Allison's help. He felt that Ingrid's decision to leave so resolutely was more or less influenced by those reports on the Internet. Although he still couldn't figure out why Mr. Quentin allowed those rumors to spread. "Ms. Becker, Mr. Quentin is busy now. Do you have an appointment?" Rex asked routinely, hiding his thoughts. Allison's smile was still gentle. "I don't have an appointment, but I came to talk with him about Aunt Karen." The same reason again. Rex showed an official smile. "Okay, then wait a moment. I will ask Mr. Quentin." "Thank you, Mr. Logan." Rex knocked on the door, then pushed it open and walked into the office. The door closed. Allison stared at the door, the smile on her face turned cold instantly. In the office, Rex told Orville that Allison had arrived. "She said it was about Aunt Karen," Rex added. Orville frowned and dropped the pen impatiently. "Let her in." "Yes." Rex nodded, turned around, walked over to open the door, and said respectfully, "Ms. Becker, please come in." "Thank you." Allison nodded politely toward Rex and walked into the office. Rex left the room and closed the door. "Orville." Orville looked up, and his handsome face was still indifferent. Allison came to the desk, her voice soft and gentle, "Orville, Aunt Karen recently saw the news on the Internet. She misunderstood, so I explained. But she didn't listen and said she would ask someone to pick a date for us to get married. I couldn't persuade her, so I came here to find you." "That's it?" Orville leaned back in the chair and raised his eyebrows slightly. He said indifferently, "If so, I'll explain to her myself. I won't bother you." Allison didn't seem to expect him to say that, and her expression froze for a moment. That wasn't the answer she wanted! She grabbed the hem of her skirt and gritted her teeth. Then, she took a deep breath before speaking, "Actually, I also want to ask you something. You could get rid of these rumors easily, but why didn't you do it?" Orville smiled. "Why? You misunderstood too?" Allison's pretty face turned pale instantly, and she looked into his eyes. Those eyes were as deep as ink. They used to be gentle when looking at her, but now, only indifference remained. Allison grabbed her skirt tighter, and her knuckles turned slightly white. "I knew I was wrong. But this time, I took the risk of donating bone marrow to Aunt Karen. You should understand my feelings." "Oh?" Orville raised his eyebrows. "I do understand." Allison was taken aback. He knew her feelings yet still let the rumors spread. Did he want to get back together with her? Allison's eyes lit up, and under the impact of joy, she confessed all her thoughts instantly. "Orville, I know it's my fault that I abandoned you three years ago. In fact, I have regretted it every day since I went abroad. Even if Aunt Karen isn't sick, I will return to you. Because I've never let you go!" "Really?" Orville looked at Allison's admiration in her eyes, but Ingrid's face appeared in his mind. That woman used to look at him the same way. No. Her eyes were more beautiful than Allison's, and her pupils were even darker and brighter. He only needed to glance at her to capture the love in her eyes. All her love was for him. But now, he had lost her. Thinking of Ingrid, Orville felt a suffocating pain in his heart, and he looked at Allison even more coldly. He stood up, picked up his coat from the hanger, and draped it over his arm. Turning her head to look at Allison, he smiled. "It seems I never promised to be together with you, did I?" Allison's eyelids twitched. She stared at Orville, and her heart tightened slightly. She had a bad feeling. Orville said coldly, "I asked you out on the night of the car accident three years ago to make it clear to you, and I also wanted you to go back and make it clear to Aunt Karen that I'm interested in you." Allison was stunned. Her face with delicate makeup suddenly turned pale!
