Chapter 3
This is My Roommate consisted of Tyler on bass, a lesbian named Gretchen on drums, a Canadian named Jean-Paul playing the keyboards, and a lead singer calling himself Normal Bates.
"Hey, guys,” Tyler said when the band convened in his garage. “This is Bobby, one of my cousin's friends. He heard our album and really liked it.”
"Cool cool,” Normal Bates said.
"Are you blind?” Gretchen asked.
"Yep.”
"Cool,” Jean-Paul said, his French-Canadian accent apparent.
"Um, all right,” I said. “Your band has a great sound.”
Tyler led me to a milk crate by the wall of the garage. I sat on the plastic box and leaned against the cool wall. Within minutes, the band started playing.
The first song sounded rough, and the lyrics weren't quite ironed out, but I found them fascinating.
