Chapter TwoAs soon as Philippe Dubucheron entered the room, Mr. Beaumont left it. He realised that he had not had time to give the servants the Duke’s instructions that he would see nobody and His Grace’s solitude had therefore been interrupted. Dubucheron was the type of hanger-on whom Mr. Beaumont most disliked, although he told himself that there was some excuse for the French dealer because he had something to sell.
