“Wh-why do you ask?” I could tell Noah was incredibly uncomfortable from the question her mother just asked, which I could clearly hear through the stall.
"Just wondering," Noah's mom trailed off.
Since I already had the top that Lauren had picked out on, I decided to get out of the changing room and break the tension.
"How is it?" I asked them.
"Beautiful," Noah gasped, making me blush.
Noah’s mom gave us a look, but didn’t make any further comments. I wondered what she would think if she knew the truth. Before I could figure that out, Jasper was ready to go. We went to a few other stores before stopping for lunch. We ate quickly in order to go to the movies later. Right as we were finishing up, I excused myself to the bathroom. Noah followed me.
"Did you hear what my mom asked me in the store?" Noah asked as soon as we were alone.
I nodded.
"Sorry I didn't tell her, I just don't know if you want to be out or not," she said.
That was the first time I thought about coming out of the closet to more than just Blaire and Maia. I had never realized that I would have to. I simply thought I would suffer from unrequited love in silence until I eventually moved on. I knew I didn’t want to hide who I was forever, but I wasn’t ready just yet.
"Can we wait? I want to come out, but just not right away," I said, “RIght now, only Blaire and Maia know that I’m a lesbian.”
"Sure, anything for you," Noah replied.
“Do you want to come out?”
“Of course I’d like to come out as a couple to our friends and family, but I don’t want to tell the world just yet. I want to keep our relationship to ourselves for as long as we can before the media inevitably finds out.”
“Yeah, that makes a lot of sense,” I agreed.
My lips then met hers. I craved her touch constantly. Now that we were alone, I couldn’t resist any longer. Our kiss was gentle; inviting endless possibilities of directions we could go in.
"Hey-" Noah's mom came into the bathroom, but she stopped talking as she saw us kissing.
Noah and I pulled away from each other quickly, and we were both blushing. Noah's mom, however, was smiling at us.
"You two are dating," she said, still smiling, "That's so cute."
"Really? You're okay with it?" Noah asked.
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
She had a good point. There was nothing wrong with us liking each other. There was nothing wrong with our sexualities. Of course, it was still scary to tell anyone, or especially have them find out in such a way, but I knew that I was lucky and the people in my life were accepting.
We all made our way back to Jasper. The four of us went to the movies, and made our way back to Noah’s afterwards. My parents and little sister Clarke joined us for dinner. It was nice to have both of our families together. It gave us a taste of what going to L.A. was going to be like.
Before we knew it, it was time to go to L.A. Promises were kept, and Simon was waiting for us at the airport once we got there. Maia, Amber, and Jordan were all already there with their moms.
"Let me take you all to the hotel you'll be staying in," our agent said after we all greeted each other with hugs.
We all followed him to the hotel, and found out that the girls and I were all sharing a room together, while my family got a room together, Noah’s family got a room together, and Amber, Maia, and Jordan’s moms got a room together. Amber and I each ran to separate beds. Maia joined Amber on her bed, and Noah joined me on mine. Jordan took the couch, happily not having to share with anyone.
Maia looked at Noah putting her stuff down on my bed and gave me a wink. I immediately blushed. I gave Noah a look, who turned to Maia. Maia raised her eyebrows, knowing something was up.
“Uh, hello, what is all this silent communication about?” Jordan asked, “What’s the secret?”
I looked at Noah, who was already nodding at me.
"Noah and I are dating."
