Chapter 22: No Appetite

-Madeleine- I hadn’t had breakfast, and while my mother would have applauded me for skipping a meal, I reminded myself that she wasn’t here right now. I was free to eat if I wanted to—and I definitely wanted to. After staying in my room for a few hours, my growling stomach finally drove me to the kitchen in search of something to eat. I had never cooked before. Sure, I knew how to pour milk and cereal into a bowl, but I wasn’t in the mood for cereal. I opened the large fridge and started browsing the assortment of food inside. When my eyes landed on the bread, my stomach growled, and I decided to make myself a sandwich. How hard could it be? Apparently, quite hard if you had zero cooking skills. Maybe it was just the stress and the argument with Kate that made the sandwich taste bland.
