Emily buried herself in work, and as the clock approached twelve, she was getting ready to go to Deno Group for the appointment. She hailed a taxi by the roadside and after stating her destination, she looked out the window at the passing scenery. Her mood was as complicated as Edward's.
Her phone rang again, but this time it wasn't Edward, it was her mother, Mary. Emily was already in a bad mood, and seeing Mary's name displayed on the phone screen only made her more irritated. Every time Mary called her, it was only for money, and there was never a warm conversation between mother and daughter.
Her finger hovered over the hang-up icon, hesitating for a moment, but she pressed it anyway. It had been made clear already. From now on, she wouldn't repay any of her mother's gambling debts.
