CHAPTER FOUR
The school parking lot was as usual in a frenzy when Peggy pulled her red Merc to a stop at her usual parking spot. The one thing I notice about Woodcave high that was strikingly similar to my former high school, was that there was this unspoken social status easily detectable in the air. The rich kids didn’t have to be escorted by bodyguards or have chauffeurs drive them to school but the fact that they would stepping out of a 2019 Armored Mercedes Benz G500 Brabus Invicto Mission while some other kid had to ride an old bike to school was enough to realize the gap. Even the parking spaces were different and well, with us coming from one of the rich families in town, Peggy’s parking space was predictably much among the rich kids.
“Well, let’s see what today brings,” I stepped out of the car after making sure my shoelaces were tied properly.
With our school backpacks strung to our shoulders, we made our way to the lockers before we were shortly joined by Leon and Andrew. Leon hugged both of us before leaning beside my locker with a sweet smile on his face.
“Hey girls,” Andrew sounded a little more excited than he had been yesterday.
“What has gotten you all happy today? On second thought, don’t tell me. Whose party did you get invited to this time?” Peggy said. Party? I almost rolled my eyes. Why do teenagers get all hyped up about parties anyway? For all I know, they only get to drink cheap booze and make out with each other all night. I doubted if there was really any fun in that but then again, I had never been to a high school party before so I don’t think I actually had a say in that.
“Trust me you are going to like this one Peggy. Drum roll please,” Andrew was very dramatic and that explained why he was part of the school’s drama club,” Its Gregory’s party,” he grinned.
“If its Gregory’s party that means Chase will be there,” Peggy clarified, her eyes widened at the latter part.
I had no idea who Gregory was and since parties were never really my thing I never bothered to ask a question. When I turned to lock my locker I saw a look of defeat cross Leon’s gray eyes as he watched Peggy.
“Maybe finally Chase would get to notice me,” She giggled excitedly.
“I will catch you guys in homeroom,” Leon suddenly said before walking away abruptly.
“Sure,” Peggy said after him.
Math proved to be better than yesterday excluding the fact that the teacher came in twenty minutes late to class, again. It seemed to be a habit but considering I was not really a math kind of girl I didn’t mind at all. Neither Lucian nor Alexander seemed to mind my presence at all and so far I heard learned Chase was the kind of guy who would not let a pretty face go as long as she was a brunette. Apart from math and Biology, I didn’t share any other class with Alexander or Lucian. However, I had to share French which was the last class before lunch with Chase. As long as I wasn’t a brunette, I was very much safe
“I really hate that French teacher,” Leon complained for the third time since we got in class. Apart from homeroom and Biology, French was the only other class I had to share with Leon.
“I have never liked French but it’s better than having to seat through a Spanish lesson. I never seem to get anything Spanish to stick in my brain,”
“Ouch! You know I’m Spanish right?” he faked a hurt look.
“How could I forget that Guzman?” I used his last name.
“Whatever,” he smiled.
The teacher, Miss. Vasquez was one of the youngest teachers in school and with her brunette strands accentuating her fair skin, one could understand why the French class was over flocking with the male population. Despite not being French, she really excelled in the fluency of that language. She was about to start teaching when Chase strode in, flirting a playful glance at the teacher. I was not sure if it had been just a part of my imagination but I thought I saw the teacher’s face flash. Leon groaned beside me, obviously jealous that someone else was getting the pretty teacher to blush. After teaching us for ten minutes she pulled made us listen to some French tapes.
“I just don’t understand what Chase sees in her anyway,” Leon grumbled as we joined Peggy and Andrew at the lunch table.
“What is he complaining about?” Andrew asked without looking up from his phone.
“That he is not getting the teacher’s attention and Chase is,” I clarified.
“Don’t worry, as soon as Chase is done with her then you can try your luck,” Andrew joked.
“Eww! Gross both of you,” Peggy said, her face scrunched up.
“Just admit you are jealous Chase is persuading other interests,” Andrew chuckled, hitting Peggy on the arm playfully.
“First off, she is not even that pretty and second teacher-student relations are banned,” she shrugged biting into an apple.
“First off she is the epitome of beauty and second who said anything about relationships? As his reputation precedes him, Chase never plays for keeps. He is more of a hump and dump kind of guy,” Andrew pointed out. Hump and dump? What was so difficult about falling in love with persona and sticking to them?
“Whatever,” She huffed with a light frown painting her features.
There was nothing I dreaded more than Biology class and as we stepped inside I felt my insides curl up with sudden fear for no reason. As I branched to take my seat at the far end of the corner of the class I could not help but cross my heart that neither Alexander nor Lucian showed up to class. Luck was however not on my side when I saw Alexander walk in alone. He stopped at the front of the class, cast one dark look at me before walking over to Mr. Dawson. Choosing to ignore my heart’s own erratic beating I shifted my gaze to the quiz the teacher had given us yesterday. None of the words on the paper seemed to be making any sense in my brain as I tried so hard to focus.
“No, you don’t understand a damn thing Mr. Dawson!” My eyes shot up from the paper at the angry shout of Alexander and so did the rest of the class.
“Mr. Bane if you really want us to talk then I highly suggest you bring down your voice,” Mr. Dawson’s voice held command.
“Sorry,” Much to my disbelief I heard Alexander apologize even though he clearly didn’t mean it.
“I will check through my list and find you a new partner tomorrow. Meanwhile, I’d suggest you be kind to Miss Bishop,”
“Sure,” he said before walking towards me.
“Now, I’ll make it simple for you Bishop. You don’t talk to me and I don’t talk to you,” He whispered sitting next to me.
“Did I do something wrong to you?” I questioned, gathering up the last shreds of courage. I wanted to know just what the hell was going on.
“I said you don’t get to talk to me,” he warned gritting his teeth.
“Okay. I got it,”
Resolving to delve into my text book, I tried to ignore the fact that Alexander was sitting inches away from me. It was at the end of the lesson when I was picking my backpack, that he surprised me with a sudden strong grip on my arm.
“What the hell!” I cussed feeling a little pain as his firm grip squeezed the bracelet against my skin.
“Why are you here Faith?” He queried.
“Because it’s my step father’s home town,”
“You know damn well what I’m talking about. So why the bloody hell are you here Faith Bishop?”
My fearful gaze darted to the class and much to my chagrin there was nobody in class. Even Leon was gone. I needed a way out.
“Don’t even think about it,” he warned.
“You are hurting me,”
“Then answer my question. Why are you here in Woodcave Faith?”
“Look, Alexander, I have no idea what I did to you to deserve this- whatever this is. Please just let go of my arm and I promise I will never speak to you at all,” I pleaded with him, blinking repeatedly.
“You might want to let go of her arm,” I snapped my head towards Peggy. Beside her were Andrew and Leon all seemingly alert.
“I’m not going to stop till I find out what you are here for because you will never be part of Woodcave. I will see to it,” He let go of my arm, pulled his backpack on his left shoulder before slowly making his way out only to stop at the door beside Peggy.
“You might want to train these douches too,” he said with no hint of a smile.
Leon was about to hit him but Peggy restrained him.
“You would not want to waste your energy on him,” she stated.
Alexander shrugged lightly before disappearing through the door.
