Book 1 7. Only Goal

455 Words
“Kill her. She called mate a bitch.” My wolf’s violent side was threatening to show up after I heard what Claire told Annabelle. Funny how he liked it when we got slapped by our mate, enjoying the pain like the masochists we were, while he couldn’t tolerate seeing her in the slightest pain… for yes, what Claire had said made Annabelle hurt, and that could not and would not do. I, too, wanted to hurt Claire the way she had hurt my mate, and couldn’t help but let out in a hiss, “Shut up Claire. You don’t know what you’re talking about.” Claire’s watery eyes met mine and I could see both the sadness and the rage in them. “Oh, yeah?” “Yeah,” I told her matter-of-factly while trying to control my wolf. “How long has this been going on?” She demanded to know in a shaky voice. “There’s nothing going on, Claire,” I heard Annabelle plead with her stepsister. My mate was willing to deny her feelings of attraction for me, just for the sake of not hurting my dumb and shallow ex-girlfriend. I couldn’t let that happen. Claire had to understand that what happened was not Belle’s fault. If anything, it was mine. “Whatever makes you sleep at night, slut,” she retorted. “Claire!” both Kyle and I reprimanded; he in a rather soft patronizing tone, and I in a much angrier one, as we saw Annabelle’s hand shoot up to her mouth to keep her sobs at bay. “If you want to know the truth so much,” I started as I eyed the Silver girl with disdain, “I have never been interested in you. My only goal was to get close to Anna.” Both girls –the one that held my heart in the palm of her hand without knowing, and the one I had used to get close to her– gasped in shock. The sadness that had been battling with rage in the depths of Claire’s eyes lost inevitably, and within seconds, she tried to slap me in the face. Why, thank you, I received enough slaps for one day, I thought bitterly as I stopped her hand mid-air. “Don’t you dare,” I growled at her. Feeling my eyes on the verge of changing to black, I closed them. Annabelle chose my moment of distraction to run out of the party, Kyle hot on her heels. Could it possible that I said too much in one night? I was half in control of my mouth when I let that out. “Yeah, always blame the wolf, why don’t you?”
