Eva'd probably had a few cups with the ladies, but he’d grown up drinking tea like it was water and never felt the caffeine. At four o’clock, school had ended, and now Emily set out the sandwiches from the refrigerator the chef had left them, as was her usual habit, like it was her task, and assured him that dinner would only take a half an hour to warm up later. He’d told her multiple times she didn’t need to, but Eva’s sister always did it anyhow. The second he finished pouring the tea and setting the cups on a tray, Eva walked in the door.
