Chapter 16: Third Person

1162 Words
Charles bowed his head and walked quickly in the dark old quarter until two people popped out from the side of the road.   "Charles, are you okay?" It's Robert.   Robert and Mark walked up to join Charles with a sense of respect in their eyes. Robert couldn't forget it for a long time, he thought he would never forget the scene where Charles stopped the four people. It’s also a bit complicated for Mark. He didn't expect Charles to be so fierce, and he didn't even think that Charles would save him.   Charles really enjoyed the feeling of being admired. He pretended to be relaxed, "It's nothing. It’s just for friends."   "Thank you," Mark said unnaturally.   Charles swallowed the ridicule at Mark. He felt that since he had been a good person, although he was forced, there was no need to break the relationship. He didn't have to be friends with Mark, but they didn't have to be enemies either.   "Forget it. This is what friends should do.”   Although Mark could not see the sincerity on Charles's face, these words still made his heart warm, "Since you helped me, then I will help you too. I heard Robert said that you recently got fake cigarettes. If you can trust me, I will help you sell it."   Charles frowned and looked at Robert. Robert's mouth was too big. He should be more careful with similar secret information.   Robert didn't see Charles' dissatisfaction but responded stupidly, "Charles, Mark said he has a market. I think he can help us sell it."   Charles looked at Mark suspiciously. It made sense for him to distrust Mark, because they have been partners for a few years, but none of them has ever stepped into an area other than stealing wallets. Charles didn’t know where his source came from.   Mark immediately saw the suspicion in Charles's eyes, and quickly explained, "When I was working with MadNine, I often drank with Jim. If nothing happened that time, I would change the position.”   Charles took out a cigarette. To be honest, what he was most worried about now was the sale part. If the goods of $10,000 yuan cannot be released in time, it will be a time bomb, which may break his body at any time. The thing was that he can't completely trust Mark.   Mark added, "Actually, there was a misunderstanding between us. I have been aiming at you before because of damn Jim. Also, you were blocked by the police, and it was no one but Jim who asked me to call the police."   Charles grinned and said contemptuously, "Really? He was arrested anyway; you can say whatever you want to say. If you were right, why did he chop off your fingers?"   "I know you don't believe me, but I am serious. As for why Jim suddenly changed his mind, I have no idea."   "Charles, I believe Mark, because when I told Jim about the police and Mark, he told me to shut up. Now looking back, I guess he should have known about the police at the time."   Charles couldn’t buy Mark's words but moved by what Robert said. If Robert were right, it’s indeed possible that Jim was the one who planned all those things, otherwise, Charles could find a reason why Jim didn’t even send a text message to remind him.   "Are you serious about finding the buyer?" Charles asked.   "Yes. In three days, I'll definitely give you a shot." Mark said, clapping his chest.   "Then I will trust you this time. If you make it, I won’t forget your share," Charles promised Mark his reward since he knew that only profit could drive Mark such a treacherous person.   Seeing Charles finally agreeing, Mark immediately became exasperated. Ever since Jim cut off his finger inexplicably, he has become a street rat. Like Charles, he had no idea either why Jim who asked him to inform the police about Charles turned him over.   Thank God finally someone believed that he was innocent. Mark was grateful, and at the same time, he was happy for getting paid.   How much would Charles give himself if he could sell all cigarettes? Mark started to look forward to it.   "Where do you live?" Charles asked.   Mark recovered from his reverie and said embarrassedly, "I was kicked out by the landlord."   "Then you come with us if you like," Charles said.   "Yes, Mark, let's work together! We three will become the best partners!"   Charles glanced at Robert, feeling a little helpless for this naive young man. He even felt that a simple person like Robert shouldn't be a thief. Sometimes a person’s kindness could turn into a weapon, and the victim maybe someone else, more likely himself.   This proposal was really tempting, but Mark knew that Charles still didn't trust him enough, "Let’s see after the cigarettes are sold out. I will contact the buyer tomorrow."   Charles was satisfied with Mark's reaction, "Would you like to go to the hospital?"   "No worries. I already get used to it,” it's not that Mark didn't want to go to the hospital, but his wallet didn’t allow him to do that, otherwise he wouldn't risk stealing in the Little World tonight.   "Then let’s go back to the hotel," Charles said.   There’re only two beds in the room, Charles lying on one bed, while Mark and Robert squeezing on the other one. Tossing and turning, Charles was unable to fall asleep. He kept thinking about why Jim wanted to set him. And the next moment he started to be worried about whether those fake cigarettes could be successfully sold. He even thought about whether he should return the five hundred bucks he ‘borrowed’ from Dylan.   Charles finally fell asleep in the exhaustion.   He had a dream in which there’s a slim woman wearing only panties. The woman turned her back to him, only showing her sexy ass. Everything was beautiful except for the picture on the underwear. It was a big-mouth monkey.   Charles stretched out his hand to feel the butt, however, the touch was a bit different from what he imagined. It’s a bit greasy. Charles woke up from his dream in shock and then saw Robert's surprised face.   "Charles, you are awake."   Charles sat up hurriedly, found that Mark was not in the room anymore, "Where is Mark?"   "He went out to contact the buyer early in the morning. What dream did you have just now? You were keeping touching my face."   Charles gave a dry cough, "Ah, really? I’m sorry. I thought I were feeling the cash in the dream." He wiped his hand on the quilt secretly, "Did you tell Mark where we keep the goods?”   "No," Robert didn't disappoint Charles this time.
