.
"What happened sir?" I asked my boss, trying to get back on my feet.
"We would talk about it later, let's leave here first, it's too public." He whispered to me.
"Dad, what is it? please tell me." Eden cried as she ran up to us. She held Ms Gerald. "Mum?"
"He's alive, at least we didn't loose him." Ms Gerald managed to say, hugging and placing a kiss in her hair.
"So?"
"The doctor said we can go home and leave someone to stay with him." Mr Peterson replied.
"I'll stay." Eden and Barbara chorused.
"Fine then the two of you can share staying with him." Mr Peterson concluded.
I bent down, picked up my necklace and put it at the back of my Jean pocket.
"For how long will he be unconscious?" Barbara asked.
"No body knows yet, and it's frustrating."Dr Gerald replied.
"It's okay Dr Gerald, stop crying, I trust my baby, he'll be fine." Barbara said, trying to console her.
"The truth is Lewis has lost his sight." Dr Gerald announced crying.
"What!" I exclaimed, finding it difficult to fathom what I just heard.
"My goodness!" Barbara exclaimed. "So, so Ava told the doctor to remove my fiance's eyes?" She turned to me."You b!tch." She tried to slap me but Eden held her hand.
I was still lost in thoughts when all these were happening, I realized what she wanted to do when Eden stopped her.
"What's is wrong with you Michelle? What are you trying to do?" Mr Peterson asked her angrily and she started crying. "The doctor didn't remove his eyes, it's just a temporary impairment in the brain section controlling the eyes.
Barbara sniffed, using the back of her hand to wipe her eyes.
"It's okay I understand you, but it's not Ava's fault. She actually saved his life." Mr Peterson said.
I heaved a sigh of relief.
"We don't want people to know about what happened to him yet, you know he's a public figure and people are always interested in whatever happens to him. So this'll be our little secrets in this family. We'll just tell his fans that he is having a bed rest." Mr Peterson whispered to us.
"I'm sorry sir." Barbara pleaded, sniffing.
"It's ok Michelle stop crying." He patted her shoulder.
"Sweetheart let's let's go home." He said to his wife and they left.
"Eden you should go home too and come back tomorrow I'll take care of him for the night." Barbara said.
"No I can't leave him alone Mum and Dad are not here." Eden argued.
"Fine, let's stay together for the night. From tomorrow we'll share staying with him." Barbara suggested and Eden nodded in agreement.
"Eden, we want to go home." One of her friends called from behind us.
"Oh, sorry, I'm coming." She answered them. She turned to us "I'll be back, lemme see them off." She said, walking to her friends and they all left.
"I should get going to." I said awkwardly.
"Why, who said you should go and where are you going to?" Barbara asked.
"Non ya." I replied, leaving her.
"Non ya what, what do you mean by non ya?" She asked, following me.
"I cleared my throat and replied. "Non ya business." I increased my pace.
She suddenly jumped in front of me. "You've got nerves Ava, you've grown wings." She smirked.
"Don't ever think you can bully me again. Bar..."
"Hey don't ever make such mistake again, I'm telling you for the last time it's Michelle." She said cutting me in track. "And I'm not a bully, stop making me look like a monster.
"Whatever, I don't have time." I said, walking away. But she kept following me. "What do you want? I asked her, folding my hands on my chest.
"You will stay here with me until Eden returns."
"You volunteered to stay, nobody forced you." She just stood in front of me saying nothing. "Fine." I sighed. "But on the condition that you won't annoy me."
"You're giving me conditions, Ava?"
I wanted to reply her when my phone started ringing. Bringing it out of my Jean pocket to see the caller, it was Eden. I was scared.
Hope she's fine, hope nothing's happening to her? I became worried.
"You don't want to answer your boyfriend's call in my presence, I'll excuse you." Barbara voice called back my attention.
"It's not my boyfriend silly, it's Eden." I replied on impulse. 'Oh Ava, you're such an i***t, you owe her no explanation.' I caused myself.
"So why aren't you answering it?"
"Oww... My bad". As I remembered to answer it, the call ended.
I wanted to call her back when her call came in again. This time I quickly picked it up.
"Ava, where are you? Don't tell me you've left the hospital?"
"I'm still here. Hope..."
"Is Michelle there with you?" She asked before I could ask her any questions.
"Yes." I answered furrowing my eyebrows to look at her and she whispered "What?"
"Can you please give her the phone? Or better still, put it on speaker."
"Okay, done" I said after doing it.
"Are you okay?" Barbara asked her.
"Yes. I've been trying to reach you, but your number wasn't reachable."
"My phone died." Barbara replied.
"Okay, please I won't be able to come back there tonight, Abel wants to take me out. Please can you guys cover up for me?"
"Sure, why not?" Barbara replied.
"Thanks Mimi." She chuckled. "Ava, please can you stay with her? You know it's the first night." She sighed and Barbara giggled. "I know you guys aren't friends but please do it for me and I'll be indebted to you forever."
"You don't have to say that, I can do anything for you but your parents..."
"They won't be in the house, even if they go home, they won't eat, they will drink till they sleep off. Besides I called dad and told him you'd be spending the night with us and he was happy about it."
"Alright then, anything for you. But you have to be very careful with..." She ended the call while I was still talking and Barbara burst into laughter.
I gleared at her angrily and walked away, not wanting to say things I'll regret later.
"Ava." she called after me but I refused to answer her. "Ava." She called again, this time louder.
"You know you are in a hospital right?" I asked her angrily. "You still haven't fixed the way you behave in the public. I muttered.
"I heared what you said, but I won't use it against you because I want to use you." She said authoritatively.
"What?" I stopped and turned to her. "Say that one more time and I will cut off your tongue.
The truth is, if they gave us a chance to fight physical fight without weapon, I will beat the hell out of Barbara again, like I did when we were younger, that almost made them send us out of the orphanage. She sure knows how to get on my nerves.
"I will say it again, Ava I want to use you and there is nothing you can do about it." She said pointing at something.
I turned to look, it was the room Lewis would be staying until he leaves the hospital. Just when did we get here?
"How did we get here?" I asked surprised.
"We disappeared, no we flew." She laughed. "I don't know what you were thinking but we used the elevator.
"When?"
"That's not the point, the point is..." She dragged me inside the room. "The point is, I can't stay here." She said looking serious.
"What?"
"I can't spend the night here, you have to do it alone."
"Why." I asked getting impatient.
"If his sister can't stay here, why would I? Besides, you are the house help and it's your responsibility to do what the owners of the house can't do." She smirked.
"You're getting on my nerves Barbara." I fired.
"Don't raise your voice it might kill him." She joked. Barbara is joking with her fiance's life. "You know you can't say no." She chuckled.
"I can say no, and I am saying no." I spat, wishing I could kill her without going to jail.
"Then I'm calling Mr and Mrs Peterson to tell them that..."
"That I ki.." I cut her, as I was already tired of her bullying.
"No baby." She cut me off back, gesturing 'NO!' with her index finger. "It's not relevant yet, if you don't do as I've said, I'll tell them that Eden is going to spend the night with her boyfriend. She smirked.
"You won't dare." I said, burning with rage.
"You know I can. It won't affect you dear." She patted my shoulder and I shrugged off her hand. They'll only send her back to the orphanage they picked her from.
She brought out her phone, turned it on and started calling my boss, when a nurse knocked briefly and entered.
"Please, he's still on coma, he needs all the serenity he can get. If you must talk, then you should be reading him good stories for now." The nurse said, and walk past us to check up on him, after which bowed slightly to us and left.
"Whatever, just go, I can't even share the same place with you. I said angrily. She waved at me and left.
