The Crescent Moon had attacked the Rising Moon fifteen years ago, killing my parents. I was left with my twin brothers.

The Alpha and Luna raised us as their own. My dad had been their Beta and the best friend of the Alpha. The Alpha and Luna had grieved deeply at the loss of my parents and the six others who had died in that attack.

I could never forgive the Crescent Moon for what they had done.

So I couldn't say no when Alpha Brandon approached me with this mission. It was perfect; I would arrive at the doorsteps of the Crescent Moon, pretend that I needed a new pack, and then ferrate out weaknesses of the pack to hand off to Alpha Brandon.

I could finally see the wolves in the distance. I began to walk with a slightly more pronounced limp.

“Please, help me.” I cried out, making my voice sound pitiful.

“Stop! Don’t come any closer!”

“Please, I’m hungry and thirsty.”

“Rogues are not welcome here.”

“My boyfriend…" I sobbed. "He beat me, then lied, and then I got kicked out of my pack."

The wolves shifted. I could tell they were mind-linking. I hoped that I would appear to be just a young woman desperate to be saved.

"Looks like it's your lucky day. Come along. You try anything, and we'll rip out your throat in half a second."

Chapter One: Run to Danger
Alana POV I shivered in the cold. I had been walking for ten miles, trying to reach the Cresent Moon pack lands. My clothes were torn, and I had no shoes. I had fresh bruises on my skin. I wanted it this way, though. I needed a way into the Crescent Moon pack. I was chosen as the savior for my real pack, the Rising Moon pack. Our packs had been at war for a hundred years. No one really knew why the war started, only that it hadn't stopped. But I would stop the war. I would find the way. I had left the Rising Moon pack earlier this morning, cut completely off, as severing all ties was the only way to accomplish my mission. I couldn't smell like a Rising Moon pack member. I was a rogue now and hoped the Crescent Moon Pack would take me in. I would spy on the inside and find a weakness to destroy the pack. It wasn't much further to the border. Even as I thought that, I heard the howls of wolves in the distance. Good. They know I’m here. Hopefully, I won’t have to wait too long before they appear. I continued trudging towards them, allowing my hate to carry me forward. The Crescent Moon had attacked the Rising Moon fifteen years ago, killing my parents. I was left with my twin brothers. The Alpha and Luna had raised us as their own. My dad had been their Beta and the best friend of the Alpha. The Alpha and Luna had grieved deeply at the loss of my parents and six others who had died in that attack. I could never forgive the Crescent Moon for what they had done, not just to my family but to my pack over the years. We were constantly in competition with them in all aspects. Business ventures, socially, politically. It felt like the Crescent Moon was trying to squeeze the life out of our pack in any way that it could. I couldn't say no When Alpha Brandon approached me with this mission. The wolves stood and watched as I came closer to their border. One of them shifted into a tall, brown-haired man. “Stop! Don’t come any closer!” He yelled out. “Please, I’m hungry and thirsty.” “Rogues are not welcome here.” “My boyfriend…" I sobbed. "He beat me, then lied, and then I got kicked out of my pack." The wolves shifted. I could tell they were mind-linking. I hoped that I would appear to be just a young woman desperate to be saved. "Looks like it's your lucky day. Come along. You try anything, and we'll rip out your throat in half a second." The man motioned me forward. Internally, I sighed. I knew that this was just the first check. Getting onto their lands was one thing; staying and being accepted into the pack would be another issue. I was already tired from the long day that it had been. The severing from the Rising Moon pack had agonized me, making me feel like the insides of my body were boiling over. Just as odd was the missing comfort of being to mind-link and belong. Without the tether of a pack, it left me slightly unsteady. At least I didn’t have to pretend about that. “Can you shift? It’s a long run back to the pack house." The man kept his tone neutral, though his eyes were hard. “Yes, I think I have the energy”. I shifted into my beautiful wolf, Avery, who was light grey and blue-eyed. The other wolves stared at mine; it was evident that my wolf was powerful. They should stare. We are beautiful. And it seems like the men in this pack are well-endowed. The human one looked like he could be fun to play with. Seriously Avery? We need to concentrate on getting accepted into their pack. We will be accepted. We are too powerful to not be accepted. I turned my attention to the well-endowed man, admitting that he was a fine specimen, and watched him shift. We then began to run to their pack house. I knew that the wolves had mind-linked ahead. As we started to see various dwellings, I was taken to the outskirts of a shabby little building. The wolves who had escorted me shifted, having no problem with their nudity. Avery was checking them all out internally, determining which one she wanted to sleep with first. "Shift," The brown-haired man commanded me. I shifted, allowing each of the men to also look me over. I was lithe, with small, perky breasts and a well-formed bottom. My blonde hair fell below my shoulders while my blue eyes sparkled at the attention. It has been a while since I’ve received attention from a man. My ex-boyfriend and I had thought we were mates, though once I turned eighteen and recognized we weren't mates, my ex-boyfriend decided he didn’t want me. He began to sleep with other girls behind my back. I didn’t realize it, until an Omega sent me a photo of her and my ex naked in bed. I was willing to forgive him and pretend like it never happened. My ex-boyfriend told me I was stupid because I didn’t realize he was sleeping with other woman, and he didn’t want to be with a stupid woman. It cut deep as I thought our relationship was founded in honesty. My ex-boyfriend found his mate a few months after that. I still haven't found mine, but my hopes of finding my mate grow dimmer daily. I'm only nineteen but it feels like every other female wolf finds their mate at eighteen or not at all. Now, I enjoy the attention when I can get it. "This way." The brown-haired man motioned towards the door. “Of course. Could I get some clothes?” He scoffed. “You need to have a conversation with the Beta before anything else.” I walked into the dimly lit building. There was a small table, and at the far side sat a muscular man with black hair and piercing grey eyes. He was casually leaning back in the chair, his eyes watching every movement I made. “Please sit.” The kindness in his voice was at odds with his posture. The seat was cold, and I felt exposed without any clothes. Leave it to the Crescent Moon to humiliate me. “Let’s start off with your name.” “I’m Anna.” I decided to give him a nickname. “Okay, Anna, where are you from?” “I’m from the Shadow Moon Pack.” I had rehearsed this with Alpha Brandon over and over. I couldn't get my story wrong. Alpha Brandon had even called Alpha Xavier of the Shadow Moon Pack to get him to collaborate if needed. “The Shadow Moon Pack? That is some distance from here. How did you end up a rogue?” “It started last night… really, it started long before that. I had thought my boyfriend was the best man ever; he was kind and gentle.” I sniffled. “Though he gradually became meaner. He began to beat me every time I did something wrong.” I tried to read the man’s face. I thought I saw a twinge of anger in his eyes. “Last night, I accidentally burnt dinner. He grew angry and punched me. I don’t remember crying for help, but I did. One of the pack members came and saw what my boyfriend had done. When confronted, my boyfriend told them that I was a traitor, and that was why he beat me." I started crying at this point. It had taken practice, but I had worked on the tears. It wasn’t too hard. I just thought of the sadness I felt at losing my parents. I still miss them, despite the fifteen years that it has been. "When Alpha Xavier found out, he cut my ties to the pack and threw me out. I wasn't given a chance to speak or defend myself. I started walking here because I thought you were the pack most likely to take me in.” I sobbed between sentences, the emotion real as I kept an image of my parents in my mind. “And that’s it? That’s your story?” The man’s grey eyes stared intently at mine. “Yes” I saw his eyes glaze over as he mind-linked. “Alpha Justin says that you can stay as a slave.”
