Such Cliche Lines...

Olivia got out of her car and started walking towards the restaurant. She tried to suppress the excitement she had been feeling since Bobby called in the morning to remind her of the dinner date. As she got to the entrance, tiny beads of sweat started to form at her temple. Her makeup had already begun to feel like it was melting off her face. "No, no, not now... This can't be happening to me right now!!" She said to herself nervously as she pressed softly on her face as if to stop the makeup from falling off. Tonight is supposed to be a perfect one for her. Bobby was likely going to propose and she wasn't going to look like a clown in her own engagement pictures. Despite the long day at work and having to work on meeting a deadline with two important clients, she had tried to console herself with the proposal. After she left work in the morning, she went straight to the beauty spa to get her facials done and a relaxing massage. It cost her a fortune but who cares? The most important thing Olivia cared about is looking good in her pictures which would later go on the gram for all her friends and followers to see and drool on. Later in the evening, she threw on her red designer gown which she had gotten a week prior. She had bought it then only as an addition to her wardrobe but it found purpose two days later when Bobby asked her out on the dinner date. "Thank God, he isn't here yet." She muttered happily as she hurried into the restroom where she retouched her makeup. She checked out herself for the umpteenth time in the mirror and she was impressed with what she saw. She smiled brightly as she clicked a selfie and then left. Bobby had arrived then. He was sitting elegantly and looking handsome as ever. Olivia stayed put at a distance for a few seconds and watched with satisfaction before going over. As soon as Bobby spotted her, he quickly rose to his feet and pulled out a chair for her. She smiled brightly, revealing her white and nicely laid teeth. "Hey baby" she chimed in as she stood in place, allowing Bobby to pull the chair in and then sat while he returned to his seat. "You look so stunning babe." He said to her. "I know right. You look good too." She replied with a blush. He nodded to show he liked the compliment and then went silent with a fixated stare on her. Olivia loved that Bobby was lost in her alluring beauty but the silence was getting awkward so she clicked her fingers in his face which jerked him back to reality. "Pardon my manners please. I love your gown. Is it new?" He asked with a smile. "Give it to my man to always notice even the tiniest detail about me." She thought within herself while blushing outwardly. "Yeah, it is." She said out loud The two ordered afterward and while they waited for their orders, they started talking work. Bobby was the first to share about his day but when it was her turn, she brushed it aside and started another conversation. Olivia isn't the type to dismiss a conversation, especially her day at work. It doesn't matter if it was good or otherwise, she would still go into details. The sudden disinterest bothered Bobby but he didn't press further, he had worries of his own. Olivia noticed he was lost in thought again. She waved her hand in his face but he didn't come back. She then tapped the table lightly till he was back. "What is it? Why the long silence?" She asked. He didn't reply, he only smiled but she wasn't having the fake smile. "You know I won't stop asking until you tell me what it is." She pressed further. "Of course not, I just have a lot on my mind right now." Bobby replied. "Well, a problem shared with Olivia is a problem solved so spill." She insisted and then clicked her hands playfully. "I don't think you'd accept?" He aired. The moment Olivia heard this, her mind went straight to the proposal. Her eyes brightened up and her countenance changed. She couldn't wait for him to drop a knee and pop the question. "Why don't you ask me first?" She said excitedly. Bobby looked at her, smiled and then leaned forward. As he began to talk, he noticed a shiny object on the floor. Curious to know what it was, he bent over to get a clearer view. It was a brooch. He thought it must have dropped from her purse so he picked it up. Olivia on the other hand didn't see the drama going on under the table so as soon as she sighted the shiny object, she assumed it was a ring. "Yes, yes baby. Yes, I will marry you Bobby." She exclaimed while Bobby looked confused. "No, it's just a..." He didn't have to finish the sentence. She already saw her mistake. It wasn't a ring but a brooch though, not hers. The moment was so awkward for them as neither of them could say a word. Olivia wished she could take back her words but it was already too late. Bobby had a different thing in mind but how could he say it now especially after what just happened. That would be so insensitive of him. "I didn't know you were expecting a proposal." "I thought you were proposing" Olivia and Bobby said simultaneously. They both went silent again causing the moment to be even more awkward. After what seemed like forever, Olivia mustered up courage and broke the silence. "I wonder why it's taking so long for our order to be here. Waiter?" She said while trying to change the mood. The waiter quickly responded and she aired her concerns about the delay in their order. The waiter left afterward to work on the complaint. "So, why do you have a lot on your mind?" She asked. "I think we should probably eat first? I wouldn't want to come off as too strong." Bobby replied while Olivia just smirked. What could be so serious that he would be talking this way? She thought to herself. "Well, I don't think that would be happening anytime soon so we might as well while away time with whatever it is that's bothering you." She countered. Bobby wanted to argue further but Olivia insisted. "I insist." She chimed in. "Okay then. To start with, you're a beautiful, lovely and brilliant lady. And I don't think I say this often but you're the best thing that has happened to me in a long time... But..." Olivia's countenance immediately changed the moment Bobby mentioned the last word. She had been blushing all through the flattery but the last phrase sounded like what she hears in movies when people are about to break up with their partners. "Are you breaking up with me?" She asked. "Babe, please I need you to know that it's not me, it's you... No, it's you, not me... Uhm... No, it's..." He stuttered as he struggled with the breakup lines. "What? This can't be real. You can't seriously be telling me this. You are breaking up with me using cliche lines and you still can't use it properly. And why on earth would you even want a breakup? I mean, we are good aren't we?" Olivia let out with a puzzled look. "Olivia, I didn't want to say this but you've left me no choice. You are not the lady I met three years ago. The woman I meant was responsible, driven and focused. She had her affairs in order not the new Olivia that's sitting in front of me now." Bobby disclosed while Olivia looked even more confused. For a split of second, she contemplated giving him a counter response but she couldn't find a suitable one. Just then, the waiter showed with their order. As their table was being set, Olivia got her answer. She stood up, walked over to Bobby's side and then whispered some words into his ears. "I wish you a spice-filled ride back home sweetheart." She let out with a scornful smile after which she grabbed the bowl of hot spicy soup Bobby had ordered and then emptied it on him. "Oops, my bad. That was supposed to go in your pants, but I guess I wasn't focused enough." She said while still maintaining the scornful look. Olivia had a bossy smile on her face the whole time while Bobby just sat there in silence and watched as she walked out in a grand style. She was just a few steps to the door when she caught a glimpse of a lady who just walked past her. She immediately knew she had seen the lady somewhere but she couldn't pinpoint where. Eventually she remembered it was on Bobby's phone that she had seen the lady's picture. She then turned back to call the lady but she was far gone by then. To her surprise, the lady walked straight to Bobby who quickly rose to his feet, hugged the lady and pulled a chair out for her. The exact way he did when she arrived too. Olivia couldn't describe the anger that consumed her whole being in that moment. At first, she thought of going to the two and giving them a piece of her mind but on a second thought, she dropped the idea and left instead.
