For the following week, we worked hard. Having ten different people with ten different sets of preferences choose less than a handful of songs was no doubt a challenge. We managed to pull through, though. We came to six songs, which still needed to be cut down to two, not including the song for the contest. While we got to look through some of the entries, it was really our mutual agent who was doing all of the hard work on that front. We trusted whatever his decision would be with the winner, and tried not to worry too much about it.
As for my relationship with Gavyn, it was amazing. We were going on dates almost every day. When we weren’t on a date, we were still inseparable, whether it be at the mansion or at his place. I loved every moment I spent with Gavyn. I felt so happy with him- like a void I didn’t know I had was filled to the brim.
I relayed how I felt time and time again to my friends. This time, they were helping me get ready for my date for our one week anniversary. Gavyn decided to plan this date all on his own, so I was nervous to see what he would come up with. Still, I couldn’t help but also feel excited for what was to come.
Jordan, Amber, Maia, and Charlie were no doubt supportive. During the few moments we were weren’t working and I wasn’t with Gavyn, they continuously told me how happy they were for me. It was encouraging to hear their unwavering support.
We picked out a pair of dark blue jeggings, black suede heeled boots, and a simple black blouse for the date. To accessorize, I wore an array of black bracelets, a pair of sterling steel earrings, and a black beanie atop my straightened hair. The girls decided I was ready to go.
Knocking conveniently came from my bedroom door.
"It's him," I announced.
"Well don't just stand here! Go and have fun!" Amber said as she nudged me towards the door.
Gavyn was leaning on the door frame when I opened it, holding a single red rose.
“That’s pretty cute,” Jordan commented from behind me, taking the rose before I could.
“We’ll just keep this safe for you,” Maia said.
Butterflies were fluttering in my stomach as Gavyn took my hand and led me out the mansion. I tried to ask him where we were going, but he wouldn’t say. Instead, he told me how beautiful I was, which undoubtedly made me blush. Gavyn opened the passenger side door of his car for me like a gentleman before getting into the driver’s seat. While the ride was long, I filled the time by guessing where we were going. Still, Gavyn refused to say. It was both frustrating and something I admired.
The surprise was worth the wait. We eventually arrived to the coast of the country, which revealed a beautiful beach. I looked out to the ocean, where I immediately saw a small speedboat.
“May I take you on a boat ride?”
“Of course,” I smiled.
“Are you hungry?” Gavyn asked me as we stepped foot on the boat, pulling out a hidden picnic basket.
“Yeah, let’s eat.”
As a hired driver started the engine, Gavyn handed me a handmade sandwich. We ate in silence as we watched the sun set over the water. It was a beautiful sight. I felt like the colours were representative of how happy I felt in that moment.
Gavyn had done everything right. When I shivered, he wrapped his coat around me. He faked a yawn and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. He fed me chocolate covered strawberries. It was the most cliched moment I had ever experienced, and while I wasn’t normally one for cliches, I lavished every moment of it.
"The view is lovely, but not as beautiful as the view I have right here," Gavyn said.
I looked away from the ocean and looked into Gavyn's eyes. They were so sincere, like I could look into them and see the most raw and open parts of him. It felt like a privilege to have gained his so much of his trust in such a short period of time.
"Baby, you light up my world like nobody else," he said sweetly.
My lips were merely inches away from his. As I leaned in closer to kiss him, my phone began to vibrate from my back pocket. I rolled my eyes and turned away from Gavyn, wondering who could possibly be calling me.
When I noticed it was Charlie calling, my annoyance immediately turned to worry. Was she okay? Was she hurt? Was somebody else hurt? I decided to address my concerns by picking up the phone.
“Hey, I’m so sorry for ruining your date,” she rushed, “But our agent called. He picked a winner, but he won’t tell us who it is until we’re all together. Are you able to come back?”
“We’ll leave now,” I sighed, “We’ll be there as soon as we can, but it’ll take a while.”
