July 1713 Venice and VicenzaThere was a buzz of news at the docks this afternoon. News that Antonio Vivaldi was returning to Venice dominated the reports, at least that which did not apply to imports of valuable goods, and talk arose of his success in Vicenza two months past. In his musical passage through the cities of Italy, Antonio had drawn praise for his published works and his performances, but the locals were always pressing him to create something new, something that they could call their own. That fact strikes me as odd since all of his compositions would belong to him, not the peasantry of the villages. But still, in the adoration of the maestro, they persisted.
