Chapter 1
You know how when you were a little kid and you believed in fairy tales?
That fantasy of what your life would be, white dress, prince charming who would carry you away to a castle on hill.
You’d lie on bed at night and close your eyes, and you had complete and utter faith.
Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, prince charming, they were so close, you could taste them.
But eventually you grow up. One day you open your eyes, and the fairy tale disappears.
Most people turn to the things and people they can trust, but the thing is, it’s hard to let go of the fairy tale entirely.
‘Cause almost everyone still has that smallest bit of hope and faith that one day, they will open their eyes, and it will all come true.
But that fairy tale doesn’t exist in Isabella Smith’s life, her whole life was circling around the military for as long as she can remember.
She never even bother to work hard all year to stay off Santa's naughty list, and didn't have time to daydream about fairy tales, imagine her own prince charming, or even hope the tooth fairy would leave her a dollar bill every time she lost a tooth. Instead, she trained day and night to become what she is today.
She spent her years learning to be the best military personnel that everyone respects since she was twelve.
“Status?”
Bella asked as she made her way toward her military unit.
“Everything is ready lieutenant.”
One of her colleagues have informed her, Bella only raised her perfectly plucked eyebrow and eyed him intently.
She never accepted an unsure answer to every queries she asks especially when it has something to do with the military mission.
“What is ready?”
She said lazily. The military personnel could not handle the intensity of her glare that he had no choice but to look away.
“Unit deployment at 100 hours.”
He finally informed her,
“ETA and destruction point?”
Bella asked as she continued loading the gun in her hands.
“200 hours lieutenant.”
“Good, let’s make this operation quick. All of you listen up, don’t bother suckin’ up. This is my team and I will rule are we clear?”
Bella said giving each and every one an intense glare.
“Ma’am yes ma’am.”
They answered in unison and Bella was content.
“Hey, bossy.”
Bella almost curse out loud as she heard a familiar voice shouting from her back.
“Oh for the love of God, Jordan. Will you stop doing that?”
She said annoyed.
“Doing what?”
Ram Jordan asks innocently.
“Shouting!”
Ram only laughed at her, Ram Jordan was one of her closest friend and one of the very least people she trusts.
Like her, Ram grew up in the military base until both of them earned the military position they have now, a lieutenant.
Respected and feared by their colleagues and named to be one of the best soldiers by their officials.
“And quit calling me bossy.”
She ordered.
“But you are bossy, in case you forgot darling this is my team too. We are on this together.”
Ram said wiggling his brows.
Bella rolled her eyes at him as she speaks.
“Oh yeah, really? You only get to stay at the RV and can do nothing but order my men around using your ‘gadgets’ lieutenant Ram Jordan.”
She jokingly said that only made Ram make a face at her.
“You are bossy and you are mean too.”
He said, Bella only laughed at him. Ram have just been got out of the medical facility after being shot from their previous operation, if she could only decide she would not allow him to be in this mission with her and order him to rest.
“I am not mean Jordan, I am mean if I will tell you that you cannot be in this mission because you are still wounded and weak.”
She said matter of fact.
“Are you worried about me Bella?”
Ram asked holding a huge smile on his face.
“Do I look worried?”
“No, you look beautiful and bossy.”
“And you look handsome.”
“Really? And that’s good enough for you?”
“Oh no, maybe that’s good enough for Marry-freaking-Poppin.”
She said dismissively and chose to turn her back at him.
“Alright team we’re ready! Let’s get movin’ our asses up, we’ve got a mafia organization to shut down!”
She said aloud, Bella couldn’t help but grin after everybody started moving.
Not long after Bella had fixed her gun and was getting ready to depart, she noticed a military officer approaching her. She promptly saluted him and then abruptly halted when he gave her a simple nod.
“Are you and your team prepared lieutenant?”
General Sheperd asked.
“Sir yes sir.”
Bella quickly answered.
“Good.”
The general acknowledged before he turned to talk to everyone.
“Let me remind you men, you are selected for this mission because you are the best of the bests. Failure is unacceptable. Is that understood?”
General Shephered said aloud.
It didn’t take time before the entire team answered in unison.
After the general stopped in front of her and took a moment to look at her before speaking, Bella couldn't help but feel proud.
“Good luck, Lieutenant Isabella Smith.”
“Thank you sir.”
She said making an inconsiderable effort not to smile.
This mission wasn't the first mission she had received since the day she was accepted to join the military organization. However Bella couldn't deny that this mission to lead a covert operation to gather data and information that can be used as evidence to capture the powerful mafia organization- AUTORI DEL CRIMINE was the least case she had ever wanted to operate.
She waited for this mission to be given to her for so long and Bella just couldn’t contain her excitement at becoming a part managing the case of the criminal organization that’s been wreaking havoc across the nation.
When she and her team eventually arrived at the target site at 10 pm, Bella signalled the military team to move fast and discreetly as much as possible since she didn't want this operation to be busted or she would undoubtedly be busted as well.
Not to the entire military establishment, but to her cherished tiyo Anton, who had set an incredibly high expectations for her and had faith in her abilities as valiant and the best soldier he wanted her to be.
Bella wanted to make tiyo Anton proud and never wanted to let him be disappointed to her or her mamman Lisa down who tried to talk her out of the career path she had chosen.
The military team's objective was to get entry inside the enormous metal gate, which they suspected concealed the main base of the mafia organization they were aiming to capture. Bella moved closer to the barrier while holding the gun in her hands.
“Easy movements team, there are six men guarding the gate 4 at both sides of the warehouse and 9 at the back.”
As Bella got closer and closer, Ram Jordan's voice reverberated in her ears. Bella already knew the facts Ram was trying to convey, but she had no time to disagree.
Her main objective now is to do everything she can to make this operation succeed, especially since the general and her tiyo Anton trusted her enough to allow her to lead this expedition. She waited 8 long months to be a part of this operation and she had no plans of ruining this.
“We’re in.”
Bella giggled softly as she signalled her team to continue moving. They had managed to penetrate the notorious mafia base by just creeping their way in.
Bella cautiously stood up and moved to the side nearer the entrance while maintaining her careful gait. Bella was eyeing the main warehouse.
“God damn it!”
Bella swore as she watched one of her team members get up and leave the area.
Before he could reach the gate, Bella heard several gunshots that killed the cowardly member of her team.
The noise caused the people within the warehouse to run outside to investigate the commotion.
Everyone was clutching a gun, and from the looks of them, Bella surmised that they were all prepared to fight a war.
“Enemies are out, we got busted.”
Bella then again heard Ram’s voice over the headset on her ears.
“We are outnumbered, back off. Mission aborted, you hear me? Mission aborted.”
Bella merely stayed silent and continued to scan the warehouses while Ram spoke again.
She was only a few feet away from it when she mentally mapped out the steps she would need to take to successfully enter, concluding that it would be a fairly simple process for her to accomplish.
Bella kept moving as she heard gunfire and people shouting in Italian and Mexican a few seconds later.
“Jordan, do I need a translator or something? Well anyway, I am making my way in.”
Using the little microphone that was attached to her military uniform, she spoke to Ram Jordan.
“Bella, what the hell are you doing? I said abort.”
Ram said annoyed, Bella groan and never bothered to listen to him.
“God damn it Bella, we got busted, this operation is off, get out of there now!”
Ram ordered.
“You don’t get to tell me what to do, Jordan. I lead this team and I know what I am doing.”
She said that only made Ram even more annoyed.
“I lead this team too Smith so I have the right to give orders and I say my orders are the ones you should follow this time.”
He said, Bella sighed.
“I have waited months for this operation to happen, Jordan. I am not willing to wait for another few more freaking months again, I cannot do that. I am already in and I have no plans of backing up just because of that stupid and coward military man you picked to be in my team.”
She claimed that her commitment is one quality that no one can match. Bella approached everything she did as a competition, and she had no intention of dropping out of any competitions she gets herself in to.
Especially not this one.
Bella was aware that defying orders would land her in serious trouble, not to these mobsters but to the military general and to her tiyo Anton. But she reasoned that she could deal with it later, and that’s if she still had the opportunity to return to her headquarters.
“Lascia cadera la pistola.”
Bella mentally cursed as the cold metal of the gun's barrel touched the back of her head. Even though she was unable to comprehend what the man behind her was saying, she was certain that he was speaking Italian and that she was English.
Damn that she is.
“I said drop the gun.”
The man once again told her, Bella could hear his funny English accent and if she was not in a dangerous situation right now, she will surely laugh.
“Ram, if I laughed at this guy’s funny accent, my head will be a pink mist and explode right?”
She jokingly whispered on her microphone, just enough for Jordan to hear.
“Oh shut up Bella, this is not funny. Now don’t do anything stupid, stay alive and I will get you out of there.”
Ram said which made Bella smile.
“Nahh, don’t bother, I’m cool. I will get myself out of here, who knows maybe I might make friends with these freaky mobsters around here. They are all over me right now Ram. I mean like seriously? Was this the first time that they saw a gorgeous military woman?”
She said grinning which only made Ram even more pissed off.
“Shut up Isabella.”
“What? I’ll ask them give me a moment. Hey.”
Bella said calling the attention of one of the mobs that’s standing close to her, not minding the gun in his hands that might be the reason for her death.
“My friend doesn’t agree that I am gorgeous. What do you think?”
The mob simply furrowed his brows in response to her question and gave her a hostile stare.
“Smettila di parlare, prendila!”
The man behind her shouted that made her startled.
“Portala da Sebastian.”
He once again ordered and Bella could not do anything but to let them take her somewhere.
