I didn't even shift, just ran in my human form back to the pack to look for Mr. Knight. When I saw his truck outside the pack house instead of the parking spots for where he lived, my stomach dropped. Something wasn't right.
I ran in to find our Alpha yelling at Lucian while Luke was rolling on the floor in pain.
"You cannot attack a pack member with the intention to kill. We train. We roughhouse. But we don't disrespect the life of another wolf. Have I made myself clear? This boy is off-limits."
"But he slept with my mate." Lucian's eyes were on me as he held his one shoulder he must have injured. Even on his knees he was tall.
"I. Don't. Care. If this happens again there will be severe consequences."
"Understood." Lucian didn't seem to be impacted by the Alpha's command. Most wolves would have said 'yes, Alpha.' but Lucian didn't. Something was off.
'Alpha hasn't been seen in months and now he disrespects our mate? I'll kill him.' Lana growled.
'We cannot kill our Alpha.'
'Is he our Alpha? He's unmated, no heirs, over 60, and is practically running the pack through his Beta and Gamma. Coward.'
'Watch your mouth, Lana! Remember that Alpha has given dad so much help and support.'
'Not enough. He's hiding something. He's a coward, not an alpha.'
My eyes never left Lucian's as the Alpha made his way up the stairs and back to his residence. He was similar to my dad in the sense that he stayed up in his office more often. I had heard stories of him being friendly in his earlier years, but that's about it. The pack rumor mill's number one theory was that he's going crazy without a Luna and an heir.
The door to the Alpha's residence slammed shut and I went straight to Lucian.
"Are you okay? What did you do? Are you trying to get yourself killed?!" I wanted to wrap my arms around him but he coldly got up off of his knees and stepped away from me.
"Why do you care? In fact, why should I care that you gave yourself to someone that wasn't your mate." He spat on the floor in front of look as he walked out.
Luke looked like he was in pain but Lily wasn't here which is odd, since the mate-bond should alert her to such emotions and physical suffering her mate was feeling.
"Luke?" He was crying, curled up in pain. "Luke, you need to shift. Shift so you heal faster."
Why hadn't he shifted already? That's something we learn as pups; shifting into our wolf form heals us quicker.
"I don't want to!" He sobbed. "I want to die."
He didn't have any lethal marks on him from the looks of it. Just beat up and some broken bones.
"You aren't going to die. Shift so you can heal faster. For Lily."
When nothing happened I whispered "for me." into his ear. He immediately shifted. His wounds stopped bleeding and he was able to run out of the pack house.
I should've been surprised by what just happened but how could I be after Luke's confession. He really needed to patch things up with Lily, but that wasn't, and shouldn't be, any of my business.
Lana was begging me to run after our mate, so I picked myself up off of the b****y floor and went after Lucian.
