I woke up to a pounding headache as my body remembered the activities of last night. My body began to shake in anticipation as I sat in the still moving vehicle and kept asking myself what on earth I had gotten myself into.
The ride to Luke's house felt like 5 years but in reality, it only took about 5 hours through the tension in the air did not go unnoticed and the driver after a while kept on looking in the mirror at me and Luke.
"Stop staring at my mate." Luke snapped and I feared the driver would drive off the road or something in fear. Much surprisingly he just smiled knowingly and continued staring straight ahead.
"He wasn't looking at me." I croaked out, turning to face Luke.
"Yes, he was! I saw him!" Luke half yelled back looking like a kid throwing a mini-tantrum over absolutely nothing.
"Well, you did say I was your mate and he probably just wants to make sure I wasn't uncomfortable or anything, right?" I asked.
"Yes, Luna." The driver replied, giving me a smile. The world Luna made me grimace but I pretended to not be affected.
"You see! He did it again, he gave you that look!" Luke growled, his eyes darkening slowly.
"Luke, he smiled at me, do you want him scowling or something?" I asked, finding his possessiveness quite amusing.
"That's it, stop trying to flirt with my mate." Luke said his eyes a deep shade of black and his words laced with superiority.
I was shocked, I’d never been exposed to this level of possessiveness let alone over me and the way I saw it the dude was only being friendly, here he was about to be punished for looking in the mirror at both of us. That was just stupid.
"Hey, he didn't mean no harm okay?" I said looking straight into Luke’s eyes and I watched as his menacing look dissolved like magic into a small glare.
"You're lucky that she favoured you." He scowled at him one last time before shutting up and concentrating on the view out the window. The rest of the ride was thankfully quiet and peaceful and I was woken from my light sleep when we finally arrived at his ginormous estate.
His whole mansion consisted of space that was three times the size of mine and my house was put to shame for the first time.
"Come quickly, mum will be waiting to greet us inside." He said softly once we came to a stop in front of the main house.
"Mum? Okay" I replied sleepily, wishing I’d been better prepared.
After a few moments of stretching outside the car, panic hit me like a ton of bricks, his mother was the Luna queen since Luke had not found his mate before now and since Luke's father was known to be dead. She weighed more authority over anyone who wasn't her son.
I slowly walked up to the grand steps and the double doors were firmly pushed open by Luke and I begin marvelling at the very beautiful house.
Once we were inside, Luke led me up to the staircase quietly as I was aware most pack members would be sleeping in their side of the house since it was early morning.
We walked through some hallways with the driver and few other members that had travelled with us until we finally came across a room in a turquoise and white theme and sitting down on a chair staring out the window was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.
She seemed to notice our presence as her head snapped in our direction and she hurriedly stood up to come over to us.
"Mum," Luke said with respect.
"Your Highness." All the other men said lowering their gaze.
"Hello?" I said, unsure.
I watched her expression as she smiled at me with huge eyes.
"Hello to you too, beautiful. What's your name honey?" She asked motioning me over to come and sit next to her.
"Sophie, your highness." I stuttered totally flabbergasted that a woman could be this beautiful and that this beautiful woman just called me beautiful.
"Your full name Sophie." She replied back with that award-winning smile.
I cleared my throat. "Sophie Aveline Frost, your Highness," I replied confidently.
"My name is Mirabel and what a beautiful aura you have." She said in that sweet accent her son inherited all too well.
This surprisingly made me blush and I looked away because my names usually came off as very privileged and pretentious in certain crowds.
"Mum? I'm sure she's tired and you've interrogated her enough. Let's all get some rest." Luke chimed in and I looked at all the men standing in the doorway embarrassed.
I watched as the Queen sniffed the air in my direction and then smiled pleasantly at me. I, on the other hand, was baffled.
"Let her sleep in the room next to mine, I don't want you pestering her on her first day here." The Queen said giving her son a mother’s smile.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Luke said in that innocent way. I found that here in his home he seemed more at ease, maybe even less douchebagish especially with his mum. He was harder to be annoyed at.
I had only spent two minutes with her and I felt like bawling out all my life's secrets to her.
I bid farewell to the Queen as Luke dismissed everyone that had just arrived into bed, I felt the sudden urge to assault Luke with more questions about everything as he showed me to my room and was about to start firing when we bumped into a man he introduced as his beta.
"Oh right, Sophie this is my Jason my Beta." Luke rolled his eyes.
“I’m your mate’s beta half.” He snickered, oblivious to an irritated Luke.
I smiled at the joke if only because of Luke’s reaction. “Hello.”
"Hello, Luna."
"Please call me Sophie," I said
" I insist, Luna."
"Sophie is preferred."
"Luna, please."
"I’ll make sure you’re never able to have kids." I said narrowing my eyes at him.
"Sophie, it is then." He said raising his hands defensively.
We stared at each other then burst out laughing simultaneously.
"I was hoping he'd call you Luna again so you could follow up on your threat." Luke said disappointedly whilst Jason glared at him.
“I’m taking her to her room.” Luke said before Jason could try and converse with me any longer. I muttered my goodbyes and was led away mostly because I really was starting to feel the weight of my exhaustion.
“This is yours.” Two double doors were pushed open to reveal a master bedroom bigger and nicer than anything I would ever have dreamed.
“Wow.” I said, running in to check the place out. There was a balcony, a walk-in closet, large television and the most glorious bathroom I had ever laid my eyes on.
“Thank your mother for me.” I said barely looking at him and I could feel him seething at not getting any appreciation behind me.
“Well, I guess I’ll leave you to it.”
“No, stay.” I stopped him. He turned in clear surprise. I had been jumping on the bed and now plumped into the white sheets watching him.
“The place is big enough for the two of us why don’t we share it?” I said in all seriousness.
He almost looked reluctant, scratching his head.
"My mum wouldn’t approve Sophie." He said.
"What your mum doesn't know won't hurt her." I countered boldly, standing up to close the gap between us. Luke was watching me closely as though he’d never truly seen me before. I came face to face with him, looking into his eyes in all seriousness.
Then I burst out laughing.
“You should’ve seen your face.” I cackled, doubling over. His eyes seemed confused for a moment then settled in realisation.
“Oh.” He breathed. “you’re teasing me.” He shook his head and a small smile played out on his lips.
"Alright, it’s getting late." I stated sleepily, "I’m going to sleep." I said faking a yawn.
His eyes widened in understanding as he quickly began to walk himself out. As soon as the door shut behind him I sat quickly in bed, reverting to my normal self as I pondered exactly what I’d have to do to escape this place, and if not punish him for taking my life away.
One thing was true though, revenge was definitely a dish to be served cold.
