Adeline woke up at the sound of hushed voices and clothes rustling. She frowned for a second, trying to decide if she was still dreaming, when she forced her eyes open and sat up in bed abruptly, hands squeezing the covers in panic.
Her eyes landed immediately on the three women in maids' uniforms fussing around in her room. One was standing frozen in the middle of throwing rose petals in a big bronze bathtub that was positively not there last night when Adeline went to bed. The second was laying out a beautiful pink dress on the back of one of the couches, with a pile of stockings, undershirt, and underwear lying nearby.
