I'm woken up by an incoming text. It's Checkers wishing me a happy birthday. I know I'll be getting texts from shops only. I check the time it's seven AM. It's going to be a long day. I decide to switch off my phone and go back to sleep. MaDlamini wakes me up 30 minutes later. She tells me to take a quick shower I'll find her in the kitchen. I take a quick shower and I drag my feet to the kitchen. I find maDlamini and maNgubane waiting for me in the kitchen with a picnic basket.
"You didn't think we didn't know it's your birthday right?" maDlamini asks when she sees my shocked expression.
"Happy Birthday nana" maNgubane folds me into a hug. My eyes sting.
"Happy birthday sweetie" maDlamini also folds me into a hug. She hugs me longer. And I can't hold back the stupid tears.
