CHAPTER TWO
DECLAN’S POV
As I walked out I almost felt bad for them. I'd ruined their precious ceremony with my presence but it had to be done. I couldn't sit back and watch that weakling claim my one true mate.
Raina, I thought, smiling. She looked significantly weak but her fiery red hair and mesmerizing green eyes were enough to curse any man.
I tried to focus on where I was going. I knew his soldiers wouldn't come after me as that would be a violation to our impending duel. It would also be considered as an act of war despite the fact I deserved it. Besides, his soldiers were as weak as the cubs back at my pack.
As I reached the forest, my strides quickened as I glided effortlessly through the trees and woodland. The sounds of nature were like music urging me on. I leaped over deadly cliffs like I was scaling a puddle.
It took less than a few minutes and I was back in my pack. As I approached the border, Drake, My Beta, ran out with alert eyes scanning the forest around me.
Drake Trent was the most skilled fighter I'd ever met and he was also one of my closest friends. He was the only person I knew could take the wings off a fly without killing the damned thing and his attention to details was impeccable.
“Sir, you didn't let us know you were taking a stroll." He said in a deep voice.
“A stroll." I shrugged. “Well you can call it that."
Drake eyed me suspiciously and then he gasped as he realized what I'd done. “Don't tell me you went on your own to confront Ethel."
“I won't tell you.” I smiled. "Besides, it's Alpha Ethel. He made a point of that while I was there.”
Drake waved showing he didn't care about the weak Alpha. "Did you see her?”
"Yes.” I said, trying to control my reaction. “Yes, I did."
"No wonder you're in such a good mood.”
I shrugged. "It's either that or the fact I'll have to teach Ethel a lesson through our duel.”
"A duel?!” His voice rose up. "You can't —"
“I can and I will."
Drake knew not to challenge my decision so even though he didn't like the idea, he just nodded.
I entered my chambers and stripped completely before submerging in a warm bath. The water relaxed my joints and my mind at the same time. Thoughts of my mate cursed my mind and I found myself wondering what she was doing at that moment. I laughed, realizing she must be cursing my entire existence because of the stunt I pulled. The look of repulsion in her eyes as she spoke to me was sensual. I felt my arousal triple as I struggled to get her out of my mind.
After my bath, I decided to train with some of the most lethal warriors in the pack. They cowered in fear even though I didn't put much effort into it. It bored me to know I was too strong to have any worthy challenger.
I arrived back at my chamber after a brief meal. As I pushed the heavy wooden door open, my eyes fell upon a familiar figure lounging on my bed. It was Elara, one of my many lovers, her eyes glinting mischievously as she lounged against the silk pillows.
"Elara, what are you doing here?" I asked, surprised by her sudden presence in my private chambers.
She was as cunning as any fox which would explain how she managed to get through the guards.
Elara smiled and stretched lazily, making herself more comfortable on the luxurious bedding. "I missed you. Is that such a crime?"
“If you miss me you can call. I think we've established that before.”
She eyed me. "I'd rather not give you the pleasure of ignoring my calls like you have been doing for the past two weeks.”
She curved her hips and stretched her long legs knowing the effect it would have on me. Normally I would have ripped her dress and claimed her there and then but my mind was on Raina.
"What are you waiting for?” She teased, her eyes begging me to come closer.
I sighed, knowing all too well how stubborn Elara could be once she had set her mind on something. "You know I can't have you here. It's not appropriate."
"Appropriate? Oh, since when do we care about what's appropriate and what's not?" Elara's voice dripped with playful sarcasm.
“Since today." I said, walking over to the straight back chair. “Do me a favor and leave."
"Hey! Come here instead. There's enough space for us. Or if you'd like more companions that can be arranged.” She said, tempting me further.
As effective as her seduction was at that moment I couldn't get the image of Raina out of my head. Her green eyes mocked me as if trying to tell me I was doomed now that I've found her.
“Elara." I sat on the chair. “Leave."
“Hell no." Her voice was a high pitched screech.
“Elara." I could feel my patience slipping away.
“I'm not leaving." She crossed her arms around her heavy breasts as she glared at me. “You'll have to kick me out."
“Suit yourself."
She scurried to the side of the bed immediately I approached her. Her eyes darted around like a trapped animal as she scanned for an escape route. I scooped her up in my arms and carried her to the door. "I'll see you tomorrow, Elara. But for now, you need to leave."
Elara pouted and groaned, blowing me a kiss as I dropped her outside. I turned around to continue my peaceful meditation when a knock made me pause mid-stride.
For f**k sake!
“Who's there?" I yelled, my voice filled with irritation.
“Your savior."
“You wish." I opened the door for Drake. "What's that?" I asked, pointing at the combat belt he was holding.
“This." He grinned. “Well since you have a duel I thought I'd be the responsible one and get you ready for the big occasion."
Drake was messing around obviously because we both knew I could go fifty years without training while getting overweight and still best Ethel, easily.
“Get that out of my face." I turned around ignoring him.
“I knew you'd say that." He entered the room. “If you don't train then I won't let you leave for the duel and if you don't get the duel, you don't get the girl." He paused to smile. “Your call."
I sighed and then grinned at him. “You evil bastard."
