Her Journey back home chapter 1
Her parents realised that she was asking for money now often and they could not afford it so they forced her to come back to her home town. Surbhi was also tired of her life by then so she went back readily but her lust for big city life raised its head soon. This time it was Kolkata which was near to her native town and her relatives were staying also. She came to Kolkata and started staying at her maternal grandmothers’ house. She was looked after by her mother’s brother’s family. The mami was a lovely lady and she looked after her very nicely. After lots of effort she got a job also. But her grandmother not her own but her grandfathers brother’s wife really troubled her. She used to insult her at every opportunity and also used to take money from her. Her needs were more than the money she earned. This is surbhi I am talking about. Her father spent some money and got her admitted to NIIT for an advanced course. But her aversion towards public transport and always taking taxis always kept her in poverty. She as always had no money as savings and was always borrowing from her office mates. She also got 2 credit cards and spent lavishly on friends and herself. She was now in severe debt and her salary was mere Rs. 6000 per month. It was story getting repeated once again. After few months she got a new job with the same salary . Surbhi was always a very hard worker so she once again was proved to be efficient and her boss gave her a raise of 6000 and her salary was now Rs. 15000 per month. Her habits did not leave her. She used to take taxi and all her colleagues used it to go home for free. She used to end up paying everywhere. If she went for an outing with a friend then all expenses were paid by her. All her life she had to buy friendship and good times. Later on also it remained the same. Surbhi has a habit of repeating her mistakes and never learnt from life lessons. S he never could distinguish between friends and friends for benefit. All her life she chose friends for benefit over friends. She always gets waylaid by people who have a sweet way with words. She never realised that they were the most dangerous people. In Kolkata meanwhile her parents shifted to Kolkata which was the most wrong move on their part. Her father always said that Kolkata they were near their son and had best healthcare. Inspite of his belief son never looked after them and his wife remained bedridden for 5 years due to doctor negligence in Kolkata and also during her end times the doctor did not come to treat her. She was starving for 7 days at a stretch and the doctor in Kolkata said that it’s normal. How is a city of good healthcare? The questioned remained with Surbhi all her life. She always felt that her father was the most foolish person on earth. And that was true too. He after shifting to Kolkata bought a flat and together with himself made his 2 sons beneficiary. He bought another flat for Surbhi on a bank loan and kept on saying that he had given her a house. Surbhi was always made fool by everybody in her life. Probably she deserved it as she did not know how to take care of herself. She later on had to sell of the house as she was unable to pay the instalment amount of the loan. There also her father refused to bail her out. Anokha says he wanted to but Surbhi’s mothe did not let him do it. That may be true as Surbhi spoke about it later that even when her mother was sick she used to fill her father’s ears with bad things about Surbhi. Her mother who was obsessed with her son’s never saw any wrong they did to her. They at some time or the other had hit both her parents. Even at the last stage when she was bedridden for 5 years they seldom came to see her and 2 hours before her demise her middle son sat at the drawing room badmouthing her. She died 2 hours later. Surbhi used to wonder why her mistakes get magnified and her brothers mistakes do not get reflected at all. She kept on forgetting the fact she was a girl and was born in a family that clearly did not want her. As Surbhi accepted later that it always takes her time to understand things in reality. She in reality was not a manipulative person and her total concentration was on food. She was still very fat.
