Unfortunately the happy start to the morning didn’t last. Mr Parker’s secretary had called in sick, leaving Kevin in charge of the office. The phone kept ringing off its cradle, Kevin being forced to answer it as well as attending to his own duties. Mr Parker was in a foul mood because he’d learned that a shipment would be delayed, “putting all my schedules out of sync.” Because Kevin didn’t have his glasses, he couldn’t work fast enough to re-arrange the driver schedules. To his dismay he realised it was Joey’s load that would be affected by the delay. Kevin’s slowness further infuriated Mr Parker, who kept up a steady stream of put downs and derogatory comments.
