Chapter 4: You're not my type

Charity point of view...

I can't believe what Mr. Harrison is doing. I don't know why it has a tremendous effect on me.

My heart almost beat quickly as if it wanted to escape from my body.

I stared at Mr. Harrison's blue eyes, I could almost see Charles' eyes on him. I just looked at the dear handkerchief he gave me. I was hesitant to accept it because it was obvious from its brand name that it was expensive.

“Please, let me use tissues. I'm not comfortable using your pricey handkerchief.” My eyes widened when I accidentally said what was in my mind. I thought—-

“Rest assured. I will give it to you when you use it.”

I shook my head. I hurriedly opened my bag to get the tissue I always carry. I immediately wiped my face. I went because I remembered my father, whom I had seen earlier.

“You don't want a fancy handkerchief. Do you prefer cheap tissues?” I turned to face Mr. Harrison because I could tell he was offended by what I did from the sound of his voice.

I just want to avoid using the expensive handkerchief. I was concerned that I would break it and have to pay for it.

"Sir, it's not like that. I'm just afraid—” Mr. Harrison gave a deathly glare, I was unable to complete my explanation.

“I understand, therefore you don't need to explain. Remember that your first day of work is tomorrow. You must arrive on time because I will immediately fire you if you are late.”

I did nothing but watch as Mr. Harrison turned and left. He seemed to be extremely angry with me because of what I said, so I hit my forehead. I didn't mean it.

‘Looks like I'll be fired fast. My boss is already furious before I even start working.’

I glance at my dirty shoes. I often remember that my father did not allow me to wear inexpensive stuff. And now that I was rejected by my father, I need to endure everything.

Slowly, sadness crept into my heart as I thought of my father's cheerful expression.

I promised myself to never behave in such a manner toward Charles. As much as I can, I will possibly understand it.

‘I didn't believe you were a serpent, Diana. I wouldn't have thought of you as my sister if I had known.’

Before I went home, I went to a popular restaurant to buy some fried chicken. I was excited to see Charles' reaction.

“Charles?” I can't believe that Charles was not there to greet me. I didn't even see him in the living room. I scowl when I don't see my grandma too. I suddenly became worried because I might have lost them!

“Congratulations, mommy!”

“Congratulations, my granddaughter!”

I was caught by surprise when the two people I had been looking for shouted. My eyes began to swell with tears. Charles and Grandma Esme were there for me even though my father was no longer by my side.

Grandma Esme embraced me. All she did was wipe my tears away.

“What if I'm not accepted, Grandma? Your entire effort will be wasted.”

“We're sure that you'll get the job. Because of this, we are confident that our efforts won't be in vain. You have our trust, Granddaughter”

“Grandma…” My heart felt like it would burst. I was delighted that my grandmother continues to believe in me. I didn't know the man I had s*x with before I became pregnant.

“Oh, please don't cry; we have to have a lot of fun. Charles has been whispering about the fried chicken you bought him several times while he's been waiting for you for a while..”

“Grandma, don't tell mummy about it. She'll make fun of me!” Because Charles had already stated his disapproval of grandma Esme's words, I simply laughed.

“Let's go. We should eat so you can rest since you already have the stuff to do..” Grandma Esme took the chicken that I was holding.

I walked after Charles to get dinner. I was pleasantly pleased by Charles' happy expression as well. I gave everything I had for my son.

"Mommy, I love you. And, thank you for the fried chicken.”

I arrived at the Harrison Company. When I saw Amanda waving at me before, I was about to enter the building. It was too early to come in, so I frowned.

“I'm glad to see you. This is your first day at work.”

“Amanda, I'm grateful for you. Your assurance that I will be accepted also encouraged me..”

“Hmph! Irrelevant! Because of who you are, you were hired. It would be better, in my opinion, if you applied as Mr. Harrison's girlfriend. You'll succeed, I'm sure of it!”

I found Amanda's words to be unbelievable. I was so concerned that someone could overhear what Amanda said that I even turned around. I recalled that Mr. Harrison disliked women who just expressed interest to become his girlfriend.

“I'm only here to work, so it's not possible. I doubt that I will ever love a man again..” I hold my purse.

I avoided attempting to love another man after Leo cheated on her. Despite his youth, I assumed Leo wouldn't hurt me in any way. But he still betrayed me.

I had been acquainted with him for many years, I had never expected to get hurt. Leo simply falls for Dianna's deceptions.

"Oh, sorry to hear that, Charity."

I shook my head, I pretended to giggle. My relationship with Leo was destroyed, which caused me pain. I was upset because I loved him but was hurt by him.

"You don't need to feel sorry, it's not your fault. I already moved on from what happened to me in the past. For now, my son's future will be my top priority!”

"What! You had a kid! You appear to be fresh, therefore it's not instantly obvious to you. You also have amazing body curves.!” Amanda shouted. Because the staff members were staring at us, I blushed in shame.

The moment I suddenly realized that Mr. Harrison might already be in his office, I hurriedly bid goodbye to Amanda in a whisper. I immediately went over to Harold's first secretary after seeing her.

"G-Good morning." The woman smiled back at me when I greeted her.

“Georgie here—hello. Because you'll be accompanying Mr. Harrison to meetings outside of the country, I'll teach you everything you need to know."

I nodded as I continued to hear Georgie's explanation. She gave me a lot of tips on how to simplify my work.

"Though Mr. Harrison is nice, all he wants is only for his employees to do their work. Many female applicants applied to work as his secretary here, but they wanted him. In front of Mr. Harrison, I saw that woman uncovered."

“Mr. Harisson was enraged with what she did, so the woman fled while still naked. I'm fully aware Mr. Harrison has told you about it first.”

Not because I admired my boss, but also because I thought my boss was rigorous, which made me feel scared. I was suddenly frightened and worried about being fired because I was concerned about my son's future.

I must guarantee his future. One of my duties as his mother is to do that.

"Mr. Harisson doesn't want you to be late all the time either. His calendar is extremely full, therefore everything needs to be planned. when a gathering is held outside of the country. You must always be prepared because even a small error could result in your termination."

"Thank you Georgie for training me."

"The HR department will want you to sign your contract, so go back there later. The salary you will receive from the company will be disclosed to you. Additionally to the advantages of being employed here..”

I practiced the training Georgie has taught me for a variety of hours. I won't be wasting it because it is a great gift to me.

When the elevator opened, I glanced at it. An elderly woman emerged. Given her elegant attire, it was obvious that the elderly woman was privileged. I smiled at her.

"Hey, has Harold arrived yet?"

“I'm sorry, but Mr. Harisson is not here yet.."

"Are you the girlfriend of my son?" The elderly woman caused me to blush. I didn't realize my boss's mother was in front of me, and it caused my eyes to widen.

"I'm his secretary here, ma'am."

"Are you sure you are my son's secretary? Don't you know that you will pass as his girlfriend?”

I immediately accompanied Harold's mother to his office. The woman mumbles thanks to me.

"Would you like something to eat or to drink?"

"I want coffee." I just nodded and left in my boss's office. I went to the pantry but was stopped.

I didn't know what kind of coffee the old woman liked. I just stared at the type of coffee in front of me.

“Charity, what are you doing here?" I was alarmed when Georgie spoke at my back.

"Mr. Harrison's mother came here. And I don't know what coffee she liked. I forgot to ask her.”

“Madam isn't picky about her coffee. Pick whatever you want, and give it to her. She will be happy when you pick a coffee you like for her."

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely!”

I just took a cup of coffee and started brewing. It was only a few minutes after I finished it so I immediately went to the office but I was surprised by Mr. Harrison's presence in his office.

I saw Mr. Harrison's mother hugging him. I felt envious but I tried to remove it. I quickly put the coffee on the table for my boss' guest.

"Harold, your new secretary is here. Until now, I can't believe that she was only your secretary!"

"Hello, I'm Margaret. I'm Harold's mother.” My lips parted when I saw Margaret extend her hand to me.

"Nice meeting you, ma'am Margaret. I'm Charity." Although I hesitated, I accepted her hand so that she would not be embarrassed or angry.

I glanced at Mr. Harrison who was frowning as he looked at me. It looks like he doesn't like what I'm doing.

“Charity, please, take good care of Harold. I trust you." I was startled when Margaret hugged me. I saw Mr. Harrison massaging his head as if he was disgusted with what his mother was doing.

"Mom, please she's my secretary! Don't conclude that she is my girlfriend!” Mr. Harrison.

"I know. Okay, come here, let's eat breakfast first." I caught a glimpse of Margaret picking up a beloved lunchbox. Margaret brought out the food they would eat.

I sighed because I felt jealous again. I don't know what it's like to have a mother taking care of me.

I grew up with Olivia but I never felt Olivia as my mother. Olivia only considered Dianna as her daughter. I turned around for a moment and saw that Mr. Harrison was already eating with his mother.

I left the office and immediately went to my desk. I glanced at my phone and looked at Charles' pictures in my gallery.

'I wish you were here mommy. Daddy wouldn't have rejected me, and Dianna wouldn't have betrayed me either if you're alive.’

'How would it feel to have a mother taking care of me?'

I tried to get rid of the sadness entering my brain. I'm also a mother, so I will love Charles as much as I can.

"Charity, you can take a break." I nodded at what Georgie said. It looks like Georgie will eat outside.

"Okay, I will eat here because I will prepare my food for lunch." Georgie just nodded. I looked at Mr. Harrison's office door because it opened.

Mr. Harrison embraces his mother, Margaret. I tried to smile when I saw it but I was feeling jealous.

"Hey there, Charity! I have to go. When we meet again, I hope to see you." Margaret gave me a wink. I was given a snack by Margaret that I had spotted while inside Mr. Harrison's office.

"Stop that, mom. Okay, she's not my girlfriend." Mr. Harrison exclaimed in annoyance. He looked at me closely, as if he were about to threaten me.

"Don't be so defensive, son. I simply want Charity to stay here long.”

I started as Mr. Harrison and Margaret walked away before I turned to look at the meal Margaret had given. When I heard a cough, I was at the beginning of eating. I turned to face Mr. Harrison, who was standing in front of me.

"Don't expect me to hit you, Charity. No, you're not my type. Instead of flirting with me, I need you to work here.” Mr. Harrison had a furious expression. I was immediately in fear of him. Mr. Harrison behavior was a shock to me
