One Night

Chapter 10

I was standing in a clearing encircled by dense forest, surrounded by a low-hanging fog so impenetrable I couldn't see the trunks of the trees.

How the hell did I get here? Going on high alert, I started slowly scanning the area for danger when I spotted a small light to the left. It almost looked like an orb, the light got brighter as it grew closer until it became so bright I had to shade my eyes. Right, when I didn't think the light could grow any brighter it disappeared with a slight 'Pop' sound, and standing in its place was the most elegant woman I had ever seen. She had long, straight hair that almost looked silver as it reflected the moonlight, reminding me of how a mountain stream reflects the moonlight. Her whole presence screamed silver and power. Her skin was even paler than mine, almost white compared to my ivory. Her eyes were an eery pale grey, while her eyelashes and eyebrows were the same color as her hair and there was a crescent moon in the middle of her forehead slightly above her eyebrows, it almost seemed to shimmer with her movement.

"Hello, Ray." Even her voice was enchanting, very melodious. I no longer felt the need to be on defense. I dropped the defensive stance I had as a feeling of familiarity flowed over me, but how did I know this woman?

“You’re probably wondering who I am, correct?” She had an amused smirk as she asked.

“ I’m absolutely wondering who you are and where the hell we are.” I almost shouted.

She chuckled, “I’m the moon goddess, Selene and I think it’s time we had a chat.”

A chat? Was she serious right now?

“Firstly, may I ask what’s preventing you from completing the mate bond?” She looked at me incredulously.

Here we go again with this mate bond drama. Why can’t people just understand we, or maybe more so I, want to take things slow. It’s not every day you find out you’re now able to transform into a wolf and have more power than any other wolf in the history of wolves.

“I understand this is a lot for you to take in, but Luke is your soulmate the one wolf specifically for you and he’s shown nothing but patience and support.” She said it like she just read my mind.

“I did read your mind.” She sounded almost amused.

“Ok, that’s just an invasion of privacy.” I snapped

She gave a whimsical chuckle, “I am the moon goddess Ray, I see all that has to do with my children, me hearing your thoughts is nothing compared to my other gifts.” She still gazed amusingly at me.

“I came to help you. You and Luke are made for each other, designed for each other more than any other wolf pairing ever has been. You two will be my champions in this battle that’s coming. Once you complete the mate bond you both will not only be stronger emotionally to finally have that connection but he will gain some of your strength and abilities as well, which has never happened before. You are both so unbelievably special. Don’t let yourself get in the way of what you two could have. The vampire king is after your power Ray the only way to protect it is to finish the mate bond.” She explained it like she was just talking about the weather, not some impending doom coming my way. I stared at her like she was nuts to which she just chuckled at me again.

“ I have faith in you Ray, you will be the turning point for all wolves.”

“How am I supposed to be this champion and apparently defeat this vampire king when I know nothing about myself or these powers I now possess. And your saying on top of all that I have to get over my hesitation of binding myself to someone permanently.”

That light started to slowly build out of her chest before that ‘pop’ like sound happened again and she was gone.

“Remember to have trust in yourself Ray.” Her voice drifted on the wind as the whole clearing started to become fuzzy.

My head felt like it weighed a ton and I could distantly hear someone calling my name, they sounded panicked. As reality came back to me little by little I realized the voice was Luke. He was shaking my shoulders and practically screaming my name at this point.

“Luke what’s wrong?”

He answered by scooping me up and locking me to his chest in an almost painful embrace.

“ For the Love of the moon Ray, you scared me to death. You weren’t answering or responding to me calling your name or shaking you and your heart beat was extremely slow. What the hell happened?” He still seemed panicked and hadn’t let me go. I didn’t see a point in lying to him.

“The moon goddess came to me in a dream, at least I think it was a dream.” He slowly released me still holding me at arms length, he moved to stare into my eyes, seemingly searching for something.

“The moon goddess Selene came to you?”

“Yeah” I said with a shrug, not sure if I should tell him the other details of our visit. She was very adamant about our pairing. But am I really ready for that? I drag my gaze up to meet Luke’s shocked at what I find. He’s looking at me as if I’m Selene herself sitting in front of him. Searching his eyes for anything to make me hold back this decision. But all I find is admiration and a softness I can only pinpoint as love possibly. We just stare at each other for a few more moments, neither one of us moving, just staring into each others eyes.

“ Luke, would you even be with me if we weren’t mates?”

His brows furrow in response to my question but he pulls me closer to where I’m practically sitting in his lap and wraps his arms around me holding me close. I can’t deny this connection or the fact that I feel the safest I’ve ever felt in his arms.

“ Whether we met that night by chance or another day, I have no doubt about us finding each other. Even if we were both human or only one of us was. The draw I feel towards you goes beyond normal wolf mating. My father had suggested I start going to high school to see if I might find my mate even before I found you.” He pauses turning my chin towards him, making me stare into his beautiful two tone eyes.

“ I would have pursued you even if you were human and pushed me away every chance you got. You are beyond the definition of beautiful, Ray. And your tenacity would have drawn me in all the more and would have had me fighting harder to win you over. I love your no nonsense take no s**t from anyone attitude. The way you carry yourself even before you shifted, screams Alpha. You were made for me Ray just as I was made for you.”

His words and the sincerity I see in his eyes make my decision for me.

I turn in his grip so I’m now straddling his lap, I run my hand through his midnight black hair, savoring the softness of it picturing how his fur feels. I crash my lips to his, taking him by surprise but he recovers quickly meeting every movement of my lips against his. We battle for dominance with our tongues as we savor each other. This kiss has more passion then I’ve experienced and I can feel my gums tingling with the urge to mark him as mine and every cell in my body is screaming at me to do so. I break our kiss trailing my lips down his jaw to his neck, he lets out a low growl I can feel roll through my whole body and settles at the apex of my thighs, making a deep heat form low in my belly. I feel my canines extend as I move my kisses towards the curve of his neck and shoulder where my mark will rest.

I don’t want to give my mind anymore time to overthink this. I start to nibble that spot careful to keep my canines off his skin and it just earns me another growl from him and his hands roaming towards my ass as he pulls me closer. I take that moment to sink my teeth in marking him as mine forever. He goes still for all of one second before he lurches forward and sinks his teeth into my neck as well marking me as his. Neither one of us pulling away, both of us biting just a bit harder. After what felt like minutes but was more likely only a few seconds we both release and pull back staring at each other in a whole new light.
