Chapter 8

Once we were back in his room, he sat me down on the couch, still holding my hand. He was looking deep into my eyes as if he was searching for something. Yet, his eyes showed some mixed emotions I couldn't figure out. "What's on your mind, Luke? Just tell me." He heaved a deep sigh, that almost sounded like defeat. " I'm not very good at this... expressing my feelings that is. I may be the Alpha but I've never been close with anyone. I mean Adrian is my best friend and beta but it's different." He ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "I don't want you to go." he blurted. I was taken aback for a second. Go? Go where? I thought. I must have looked confused because he continued. "I know, I said I wanted to take this at your pace and I still do but, I want you to live here, I want you here, by my side always. I need to keep you safe clearly, you are one special wolf and not just because you're my mate. I don't know why that vampire was after you but we will figure it out together.” He said it so fast it all ran together like one word. I was shocked at his sudden show of affection. One thing was for certain though. I felt like I belonged here. Plus the thought has been running through my mind of what other powers I might develop and what would happen if I lost control at school by chance. I grabbed his other hand in mine and stared deep into his eyes searching for any reason I should keep my guard up with him, but I couldn’t sense one. “ I will make the arrangements on Monday to finish the school year online. I will need to make it seem like I still live at home but that should be easy. I will also have to inform Skye of what’s going on. “ I trailed off. It took him a second to realize what I just said. When it finally clicked he gave me his biggest smile yet, it was a magical smile, next thing I knew I was in his arms being spun around again. “ You have no idea how happy you just made me.” He said with glee. “ I think I do actually. “ I joked. “ Plus I’ve been mulling over the ‘what ifs’ of being around humans while gaining control of my powers. I have one question though. Can I bring Skye here to visit?” “ That is a very responsible thing to mull over. You're going to be the best Luna.” He said that last part with such adoration I thought I was going to blush. I haven’t received many praises in my life. “ As for Skye, I assume you already told her about your newfound changes?” He asked to which I nodded. “ I not only told her, but I also showed her. She took it shockingly well but like I’ve said before she’s the eighth wonder of the world.” We both chuckled at that last part. We sat in silence for a little while just taking in each other's company before I piped up. “ Well I should probably get some things from my house and your bike is still there,” I said while standing up. He went and changed into his signature outfit of jeans, T-shirt, leather jacket, and Moto boots. Then we headed out to my jeep. We stayed silent most of the drive, still getting used to each other's presence. He drove again which I was fine with. I was busy paying attention to every turn, committing the route to memory. Once we got back to my house or I guess now I should say my mom's house. My phone started ringing. I guess I didn’t have service at the packhouse. Checking the caller ID it was Skye. “Hello?” I answered the phone. “Where the hell have you been? I’ve been trying to get ahold of you since last night.” She said exasperated. “ Just because your a supernatural being now doesn’t mean you can just vanish” she continued. I was just waiting for her to let me get a word in. When she finally paused to catch her breath I said. “ Are you done yet? Because I’m picking you up in 30 minutes I have a lot to tell you and show you.” “Yes, I’m done. And I thought you had already shown me everything. And you didn’t answer my question as to where you’ve been.” I rolled my eyes at her persistence. She’s the best though always concerned about me. “ Where I’ve been is part of what I have to tell you. Be ready in 30.” I finished and hung up. Luke was just staring at me I shrugged shaking my head and he chuckled. I went inside headed straight for my room. I grabbed the biggest duffel bag I had and started filling it with my clothes and a few pairs of shoes. I grabbed my pillow and favorite blanket off my bed, I shoved the blanket in the bag as well. I was going to grab my toiletries but I had a feeling my mom would notice I haven’t been staying here if I took those so I opted to just buy new ones. Luke was leaning against the kitchen island when I walked out of my room. He looked lost in thought but smiled when he saw me and my giant, fully stuffed duffel bag. Although he had a questioning look when he looked at my pillow. “ I’m weird alright. I like my own pillow.” He held up his hands in surrender but never said a word. We headed back outside. I threw my duffel in the backseat of my jeep and I could feel him right behind me, invading my personal space. Turning around I was almost flush against his chest. I looked up at him through my lashes and noticed his eyes were black again. But before I could ask why, he pinned me against the side of my jeep, locking my lips with his for a brief moment. This kiss wasn’t as heavy as the one last night but it still took my breath away. He pulled back leaning his forehead to mine. “ I’m sorry I just had to kiss you. The thought of you moving in with me has my wolf and I overjoyed and I couldn’t hold back.” He explained. I was curious again. He made it sound like his wolf was separate from him. I’ll just ask him about it later along with the eye color change. “ No need to apologize it’s not like I can say I don’t like it. “ I replied nonchalantly which earned me a smirk from him. “Alright, I’m going to go get Skye and meet you at the house. See you in a few.” I gave him one last peck and then hopped in my jeep headed for Skye’s house. Pulling up to Skye’s house, I saw she was already waiting on her porch. Once I was in her driveway she rushed up to the jeep and hopped in full of energy, as usual. Oh boy, here we go. I thought “Alright spill it. What’s going on?” She was practically bouncing in her seat. It always amazed people how we were friends, I’m calm and intimidating, while she’s rambunctious and the energizer bunny, she also gets along with pretty much everyone. I started driving before I answered her question. As we got further up the Mountain loop I could sense her patience wearing thin. “ Skye, just bear with me I can show you partly better than I can tell you.” She seemed to accept that answer and sat back in her seat finally. As I turned down the gravel drive that led to the hidden packhouse I could tell she was getting even more curious, I could practically hear her wheels turning in her head. As we came around the last bend the pack land came into view along with the packhouse. Her eyes went wide as saucers as I pulled around the circle drive to be first out again. I hopped out grabbing my duffel bag from the back. As I was coming around to her side I could sense Luke was standing on the porch waiting for us. Giving him a small smile, which he returned, I turned to Skye who apparently doesn’t miss anything, with the knowing smirk she was giving me. I led her up the front steps to where Luke was waiting. To be honest I was surprised she was still being quiet. “Hello Skye, Welcome. Please let’s talk somewhere a little more private.” He turned on his heel walking inside. Skye just looked at me dumbfounded. I did the ‘after you’ gesture and she followed him. He was leading us to his office. Skye was not subtle by any means as she took everything in as we walked. I thought she would for sure have whiplash. Once in Luke’s office, I set my duffel down and took a seat on the couch. “Alright I know you must be dying for information by now.” I started “ So cutting to the chase. Luke is also a werewolf, Alpha of an entire pack actually. I am some rare, one of kind all-powerful werewolf, first of their history apparently. The reason I wanted to share this with you is because I’m going to be living here and I might need your help with cover stories at some point. But also you're my best friend and accepted my new change without issue.” I was waiting for the barrage of questions that I knew were coming next. Skye seemed to be processing all of what I said before she exploded with questions. “You’re going to be living here? Didn’t you guys like, just meet? Also what about school? And Alpha what the hell is that? Rare and powerful? What the hell Ray! I just saw you on Friday how did all of this transpire in less than 48 hours?” I couldn’t help but chuckle at her. “Skye take a deep breath.” I calmly replied, to which she did, and finally sat down. “Luke, would you like to help explain what a comet-born wolf is?” I asked since he knows the lore and history of it better than me at the moment. He came over and joined me on the couch. “Well in our lore a comet-born wolf is a pure-blood wolf that was born as a comet shines brightest. No one fully knows how they came to be. The last comet-born wolf was five hundred years ago. They possess powers and abilities that most wolves do not. They are written as almost a savior in our history. From what I’ve gathered there is only ever one in existence at one given time.” That last part was new to me but I had a hunch about it. Skye didn’t miss a beat though. “You say they possess powers most wolves don’t. But what can normal wolves do?” She asked. “Well, we change into a wolf that being obvious but as for size and strength usually only the alpha is the strongest but comet-born wolves are usually bigger than their peers but not bigger than an alpha and they have a strength that can challenge an alpha. We run really fast in human form even faster in wolf form, without really getting winded. We can mind link other pack members, which means we can send our inner voice into someone else’s mind for them to hear us. Makes it easier to communicate when in our wolves. We also are quite stronger than humans and tend to be more fit physically without working as hard for it.” He was doing a great job explaining all this. It was my turn to take the reins now. “As for school, I’m ahead in my credits anyway. I’m going to switch to finish the remainder of the year online. To answer another question the Alpha is the leader and head of the pack you know like in the books we read, very similar. Luke here is Alpha of the black moon pack it has about five hundred pack members. I am going to be living here, the main reason being I am unlike any other comet-born wolf. I too am an alpha by blood.” I could see she was about to ask another question but I beat her to it. “Before you ramble off another string of questions.” I gave her a stern look. “Just like how I have red hair two parents have to have the recessive gene to make a redhead. Well, each of my parents has a recessive alpha wolf gene from somewhere in their family tree. Both my parents are human and will always be human. But the night I first met Luke when the vampire was after me. He accidentally bit me breaking the skin, too which awoke my dormant wolf as the doctor put it. But my wolf only came to be because Luke is my mate.” Skye just absorbed everything in like a sponge. But I could still tell she had questions, I don’t blame her. “What is a mate exactly?” She asked. “Well, it is a wolf's one true destined partner like a soulmate. That other person is specifically made for the other. Two halves of one whole. Sometimes it’s two wolves sometimes it’s a wolf and a human. But there is someone out there for everyone. And Ray happens to be mine.” He finished giving me a loving glance. “I actually only enrolled in the school to keep an eye on her. The first night we met she smelled human, still does actually.” He continued. “Another reason I’m going to be finishing school online is because I am the only comet-born alpha that’s ever been. At least there is not another one documented in their history. I have powers and abilities that we are still figuring out and I don’t want to be around a school full of humans while trying to figure out these new powers. I don’t want anyone to get hurt or to put the werewolf race in danger.” Skye nodded at that. “That makes sense and is very responsible of you Ray. I will miss you at school and I’ll miss the rides to and from.” She finished with sarcasm. “So that’s what’s been going on in the last 48 hours,” I stated. She sat back in her seat seemingly exhausted from taking in all the information we had just thrown at her. I knew she could handle it though.
