Chapter Four
Sitting the champagne on the counter I looked at the basket of all the pretty little soaps, picking up one, I sniffed the wax covered bar.
It smelled vaguely floral; I unwrapped it as I moved to the tub. Placing the stopper inside before I leaned my hand against the cool tiled wall. My head spinning as I turned the knob. Water went full blast from the shower head, spraying me with its icy cold water.
Sputtering, I slipped forward, the knob popping off as I fell into the tub.
Laying there in my jeans and bra, the cold seeping into my skin making me shiver. Was this what my life had turned into a series of depressing events? I couldn’t even get drunk and soak in the tub without something going wrong.
Turning over and getting on my knees, trying to force the knob back into place, while pushing my hair out of my eyes. It didn’t work and I slipped over the side of the tub, falling on the floor in a sobbing heap.
Letting out a strangled laugh through my tears, I looked up at the ceiling. Of course, this is how things would go with the day that I’d had. Putting my hands over my face, I scrubbed at my eyes, trying to get myself under control. Shivering, I stood up on wobbling legs. I was probably going to get sick.
I needed to call the front desk. This wasn’t something that I wanted to deal with right now. Grabbing my drink I moved into the bedroom, dripping water onto the carpet as I plopped onto the bed taking another sip.
I picked up the phone, squinting at the card on the nightstand as I dialed the front desk. Placing the phone to my ear, I let out an exasperated sigh. I was cold and everything felt numb. I just wanted today to be over.
“Seaside Hotel.” An overly chipper voice said, and I grit my teeth together.
“Hi, I’m in room 502 and the shower won’t turn off. The knob, I don’t-”
“I’m so sorry about the inconvenience, I’ll get someone right up to fix it.”
“I don’t care. I’m soaked and probably going to get sick, and this is just the icing on the cake to a shitty day.”
“Ma’am, I’m sorry. How about we upgrade your room?”
“I, I, that isn’t what-”
“I’m transferring you there right now. The door will be unlocked for you and your keycard will be on the table. I hope you enjoy room 510.” The chipper voice said.
The line went dead. I frowned, pulling the phone away from my ear. What just happened?
Bringing the bottle to my lips, I finished off the last few swallows as I placed the phone on its cradle. I stood up and walked to my sweater, pulling it on. I’d take a bath in the new room to warm up.
I grabbed my bags and my shoes, not bothering to slip them on. My hand rested on the doorknob. I turned back, looking into the room. Things would get better, I was going to let go of everything that had happened and enjoy this weekend to myself.
Closing the door, I made my way to room 510. I tried the handle, and it opened easily. My eyes widened and my mouth fell open
If I’d thought the other room was luxurious, it didn’t compare to this one. This was bigger than my entire apartment. I walked in, tossing my things to the side.
There was a basket of goodies sitting on the bar, small bottles of liquor and expensive looking chocolates. I plucked out the card and smiled.
‘Sorry about the breakup. Enjoy.’ Was printed in blocky black lettering, the staff must have sent up Kane’s surprise while I’d finished off my drink. I’d have to call him in the morning and thank him. Maybe make a trip to one of the little tourist shops to pick him up a gift for when I got back?
Sitting the card down, I plucked out one of the little bottles, not even bothering to read the little black label. Twisting off the top as I tossed the small drink back.
I closed my eyes, enjoying the burn of the whiskey as it flowed down my throat, taking away the chill that I felt. Sitting the empty bottle down, I pulled my wet clothes off, letting them plop to the floor as I moved to the balcony door. My breath caught in my throat as I took it all in.
The view was even better from here, I was naked and free. Things were going to get better. Looking back over the room, I realized they already had. Moving back to the basket, I grabbed one of the chocolates, unwrapping it as I walked towards the bathroom.
I popped it into my mouth, savoring the rich taste of the sweet candy before I was hit with the strong thick taste of liquor.
I flipped the switch on the wall. The tub was better than the one in the other room too. It looked big enough to fit three or more people. Putting the stopper in, I turned on the water.
Thankful that this time the knob didn’t come off in my hand. I moved to the little basket that sat on the counter, picking up a bottle of bubble bath. Dumping the contents under the running water, I sat down in the bathtub watching the bubbles swirl up as steam filled floated above the water.
I turned off the water and leaned back, letting out a soft moan. This was heaven and I was going to enjoy a long bubble bath before heading to bed.
***Dom POV***
“You’re not ambitious enough for me. I could never take you as my mate. I reject you Dominic.” Lena’s words still burned in my ears, making it hard to breathe. She wasn’t my fated mate, but that hadn’t mattered to me. She was the mate that I’d chosen, the one who had helped me build up my career.
