Chapter Nine She stood in the library of the square city house, looking at the hint of shabbiness that surrounded her, thinking how strange it was to have been transported to this place, so far from England, the place she knew as home, and so far from the island she’d just recently escaped. It was bit of a letdown perhaps, being in this very ordinary home on what she suspected was just an ordinary street in this bustling American city.
