Mallards, emerald heads dark
against the dismal waters of the pond
where they"ve chosen to rest
for just a little while.
They remind me of you when they swim,
rippling the water in their wake
disrupting the pond"s calm surface
the way you disrupted my life
when you swam into it then flew
away
like the mallards who have landed
by chance
in this pond who
once gone
will never return.
