ALL WAS STILL, THE only sound stunned silence, every person frozen. The entire event had taken only moments. From the beginning of the argument until the man’s suicide, only a handful of seconds had passed.
Then the spell broke. Maddox ran to the dead man’s side and collapsed, sobbing, onto his chest.
“I’m sorry,” she cried out. “I didn’t mean for this to happen. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
The onlookers regarded the scene uncomfortably.
Maddox lifted her head and said to Kes, “I didn’t know he would... I really didn’t mean...”
Kes ran a hand through his hair, his features stricken with sadness and horror.
Cherry was also at a total loss as to what to say or do. The only saving grace in the situation was Nina and Miki hadn’t witnessed the murder. She peeked into their den.
