Monday afternoon at three o’clock, John and I, along with the other associates gathered in the fourth floor conference room. John sat beside me in the front row. “Are you nervous?” I asked. “Not really. I think it will turn out okay, no matter the choice. I’ll be fine.” I watched as Mal and Carly entered the room.
